Rotterdam Dockers will take on Glasgow Cosmic in Match 9 of the European T20 Premier League (ETPL) 2026 at Voorburg, Netherlands, on September 1. The contest will be an intriguing battle between two sides that have shown plenty of promise in the early stages of the inaugural tournament. The official ETPL schedule confirms the fixture will begin at 3:15 PM local time, with Glasgow listed as the home side.
Rotterdam started their campaign with an impressive five-wicket victory over Amsterdam Flames. Chasing 158, Faf du Plessis led the way with a superb unbeaten 83 off 55 balls to guide the Dockers home with 11 deliveries to spare. David Wiese and Roelof van der Merwe also impressed with the ball, picking up two wickets each.
Their second match against Belfast Wolves, however, was washed out after Rotterdam had reached 5/0 in one over while chasing 157. Importantly, the Dockers fielded the same XI in that fixture, suggesting that the management is happy with its combination.
Here is the predicted playing XI of Rotterdam Dockers for Match 9 against Glasgow Cosmic:
Michael Levitt is expected to open the innings alongside Faf du Plessis.
The Netherlands batter offers plenty of aggression at the top and can make use of the field restrictions during the Powerplay. He has already been part of Rotterdam’s opening combination in their first two matches.
Levitt will be keen to make a bigger impact after scoring only one run in the rain-shortened game against Belfast.
Faf du Plessis should continue as captain and open the innings.
The South African veteran was sensational in Rotterdam’s tournament opener, smashing an unbeaten 83 off 55 deliveries. His knock provided the perfect example of how to pace a T20 chase, combining calculated strokeplay with timely acceleration.
Against Glasgow’s experienced bowling attack, another significant contribution from Faf could give the Dockers a major advantage.
Ben McDermott is likely to occupy the No. 3 position.
The Australian wicketkeeper-batter gives Rotterdam another aggressive option in the top order and can accelerate against both pace and spin.
McDermott was part of the Dockers’ XI in their opening two matches, and his presence gives the team flexibility in the batting order.
He could be particularly important if Glasgow’s new-ball bowlers manage to remove one of the openers early.
Heinrich Klaasen should continue as the wicketkeeper and No. 4 batter.
Few players in T20 cricket possess Klaasen’s ability to dominate spin. The South African can change the complexion of an innings within a few overs and is particularly dangerous once he gets his eye in.
His battle against Glasgow’s spinners, including Keshav Maharaj, could have a significant impact on the contest.
Benjamin Manenti is expected to retain his place in the middle order.
The all-rounder offers useful off-spin and gives captain Faf another bowling option. His ability to contribute with the bat also allows Rotterdam to maintain considerable depth.
Manenti bowled two overs for 14 runs against Belfast before the match was abandoned, demonstrating his potential to operate economically.
Saqib Zulfiqar could continue at No. 6.
The Netherlands all-rounder provides another spin option while also possessing the ability to accelerate with the bat. His versatility is valuable in a tournament where teams have to manage combinations carefully.
Zulfiqar bowled one over against Belfast and conceded 11 runs, but he remains an important part of Rotterdam’s balance.
David Wiese should be one of Rotterdam’s most important all-rounders.
The Namibia international was excellent against Amsterdam, taking 2/28 from four overs. He also played an important role with the ball during the first innings of the tournament.
Wiese’s ability to bowl hard lengths and deliver variations makes him useful during the middle and death overs. His power-hitting also provides Rotterdam with a dangerous finishing option.
Roelof van der Merwe is likely to feature at No. 8.
The experienced Dutch all-rounder produced an excellent performance against Amsterdam, finishing with 2/21 from four overs.
His left-arm spin could be especially effective against Glasgow’s collection of right-handed batters. Van der Merwe’s experience of Dutch conditions is another major advantage.
Anrich Nortje should spearhead the pace attack.
The South African fast bowler was sensational against Belfast, claiming five wickets for just 11 runs in four overs. His spell dismantled the Wolves’ middle order and demonstrated the kind of threat he poses in the ETPL.
Nortje will be expected to attack Glasgow’s dangerous top order with pace and bounce.
Jai Moondra is likely to retain his place as another pace option.
The Irish seamer has featured in both of Rotterdam’s XIs so far and can provide valuable overs during the Powerplay. Against Belfast, he bowled four overs for 43 runs, so he will be looking for greater control against Glasgow.
His ability to complement Nortje will be important.
Ryan Klein should complete the XI.
The Netherlands pacer adds another local bowling option and can contribute with the new ball or during the middle overs. He bowled one over for eight runs against Belfast and remains part of Rotterdam’s preferred combination.
Michael Levitt, Faf du Plessis (C), Ben McDermott, Heinrich Klaasen (WK), Benjamin Manenti, Saqib Zulfiqar, David Wiese, Roelof van der Merwe, Anrich Nortje, Jai Moondra, Ryan Klein
