Guyana Amazon Warriors will look to make it two wins in a row when they take on Saint Lucia Kings in Match 11 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet on Wednesday, August 19. The Warriors made an impressive start to their campaign, defeating Jamaica Kingsmen by six wickets in their opening fixture.
Guyana produced a superb all-round performance against Jamaica. Their spin attack dismantled the Kingsmen’s batting line-up, with Mohammad Nabi returning excellent figures of 4/22. Shai Hope then anchored the chase with an unbeaten 56 off 41 deliveries as the Warriors reached their target with 35 balls to spare.
With such a convincing opening performance, Imran Tahir’s side is unlikely to make many changes for the clash against Saint Lucia. The Warriors have plenty of international experience in their ranks, with the likes of Hope, Glenn Phillips, Shimron Hetmyer, Nabi and Tahir forming the core of the side.
Here is the predicted playing XI of Guyana Amazon Warriors for Match 11 of CPL 2026.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz is likely to continue opening the innings for Guyana. The Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter is one of the most aggressive players in the squad and can make full use of the fielding restrictions.
Gurbaz will be expected to attack Saint Lucia’s new-ball bowlers and provide Guyana with the explosive start required in the powerplay. His ability to score quickly also allows Shai Hope to play a more controlled role at the other end.
Shai Hope is almost certain to retain his place after an outstanding performance against Jamaica.
The right-hander produced a composed unbeaten 56 off 41 balls in the opening match, guiding the Warriors through the chase after Jamaica were dismissed for 117.
Hope’s ability to combine conventional batting with calculated aggression makes him an ideal No. 2. Saint Lucia will need a specific plan to stop him from settling into another long innings.
Glenn Phillips should continue at No. 3 after making a brisk contribution in the opening game. The New Zealand all-rounder scored 28 off 17 balls, providing the momentum Guyana needed during the chase.
Phillips can also contribute with his off-spin and outstanding fielding, making him an important part of the Warriors’ balance.
Shimron Hetmyer is expected to occupy the No. 4 position. The left-hander is one of Guyana’s most experienced middle-order batters and knows the conditions in the Caribbean extremely well.
Hetmyer’s ability to attack spin could be particularly valuable against a Saint Lucia attack featuring Maheesh Theekshana and Noor Ahmad.
Mohammad Nabi was the star of Guyana’s opening match and should retain his place at No. 5.
The Afghanistan all-rounder destroyed Jamaica’s middle order with a four-wicket haul, finishing with outstanding figures of 4/22. He also contributed 19 runs during the successful chase.
His off-spin could again prove crucial at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, while his experience makes him one of Imran Tahir’s most trusted players.
Romario Shepherd should continue as the team’s pace-bowling all-rounder.
The Guyanese is capable of producing explosive cameos in the lower middle order and remains a dangerous option with the ball, particularly during the death overs.
His ability to bowl hard lengths and use slower deliveries gives Tahir another option against Saint Lucia’s powerful batting unit.
Dwaine Pretorius is another experienced all-rounder who could retain his place in the XI.
The South African provides valuable depth with both bat and ball. His variations with the ball can be particularly effective in T20 cricket, while he is more than capable of contributing important runs in the lower order.
With several bowling options already available, Pretorius also gives Guyana greater tactical flexibility.
Khary Pierre is likely to feature as one of Guyana’s specialist spin options.
The left-arm spinner can bowl economically during the middle overs and put pressure on batters looking to attack. With Saint Lucia possessing several aggressive stroke-makers, Pierre could be tasked with slowing the scoring rate.
His presence also allows Tahir to maintain a varied bowling attack.
Shamar Joseph should lead the pace attack alongside Romario Shepherd and Pretorius.
The West Indies fast bowler possesses genuine pace and has the ability to trouble batters with bounce and aggression. Saint Lucia’s top order will need to be wary of his ability to produce breakthroughs.
Joseph could be especially important with the new ball against Saint Lucia’s opening combination.
Isai Thorne is another exciting pace option who could retain his place.
The young fast bowler provides raw pace and gives Guyana another wicket-taking option. His role could become particularly important if the pitch offers assistance to seamers.
Thorne’s ability to attack the stumps and generate bounce could make life difficult for Saint Lucia’s batters during the powerplay.
Imran Tahir is expected to complete the XI and lead the Warriors once again.
The veteran leg-spinner remains one of the most experienced T20 bowlers in world cricket. His ability to read conditions and attack batters through the middle overs makes him an invaluable asset for Guyana.
Tahir also played a role in Jamaica’s collapse during the Warriors’ opening match, with the spin attack taking eight of the 10 wickets.
