Punjab Kings posted 210/5 at Dharamsala. Delhi Capitals chased it in 19 overs. The final margin was three wickets and six balls remaining. PBKS reduced DC to 33/3, then 74/4, and still lost. Shreyas Iyer’s unbeaten 59 and Priyansh Arya’s 24-ball fifty built a platform that should have been enough. It wasn’t, because Axar Patel’s 56 off 30 balls reversed the match at its most critical moment, and 17 wides gifted Delhi 17 deliveries they shouldn’t have received in a chase won with an over to spare.

Punjab’s Batting Start Wastes Itself

Punjab’s powerplay was as strong as any batting team could have produced at Dharamsala. They scored 72 runs without losing a wicket. Arya raced to his fifty in 24 balls, and Iyer anchored the innings with enough composure to give the middle order a genuine platform. At 180/3 in 17.4 overs, a total beyond 225 was available.

It didn’t arrive. Cooper Connolly, Marcus Stoinis, and Shashank Singh fell in quick succession, and the last three overs produced only 30 runs. The specific failure here is a batting unit that built perfectly for 17 overs and then stopped executing when the match required its best hitting. Dharamsala’s dimensions reward late powerplay hitting more than most venues. PBKS had the batters capable of delivering that phase. Suryansh Shedge’s cameo wasn’t enough to compensate for three wickets in the closing overs. The total fell short of what the platform deserved, and at this venue, every 15 runs matters considerably more than it does elsewhere.

Axar and Miller Flip the IPL 2026 Match 57 Chase

Delhi sat at 74/4 with the required rate climbing. Punjab had done precisely what a defending side needs to do in a chase: take wickets early and apply scoreboard pressure before the opposition’s best batters face the death overs. Then Axar arrived.

His 56 off 30 balls didn’t just score runs. It changed the tempo of the entire innings by attacking Punjab’s secondary bowlers at the exact moment they were expected to maintain pressure. David Miller’s 51 off 28 consolidated everything Axar built, and the pair ensured Punjab never regained the control they’d earned by taking four early wickets. Madhav Tiwari extended the damage further with 18 not out from eight balls and finished with a six and four from Auqib Nabi’s final over. Tiwari had also dismissed Arya and Connolly earlier, making him the most complete performer in the contest across both departments. Punjab watched a match they’d positioned themselves to win slip away in four overs.

Seventeen Wides Decide the Result

Extras in T20 cricket are rarely the headline cause of defeat but almost always the difference between winning and losing close matches. Seventeen wides across 19 overs isn’t one bowler having a bad night. It’s a collective discipline failure that reveals the pressure Punjab’s bowlers were carrying without the technical control to manage it.

Each wide resets the batter’s confidence, extends partnerships by one delivery, and signals to the fielding team that plans aren’t landing. When DC needed 18 from the final three overs, that calculation already included runs Punjab had gifted before the ball was even bowled cleanly. Improving their batting total in the final three overs matters. Eliminating wides matters more. Punjab has the bowling talent. Arshdeep proved that alone. The discipline gap between his spell and the rest of the attack is where this match was lost.

What KKR’s Playing XI for IPL 2026 Match 57 Reveals About Their Raipur Spin Trap for RCB

Kolkata Knight Riders arrive at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur with a playing XI designed around one specific insight: this venue rewards smart cricket over spectacular cricket. Large boundaries reduce the value of aerial hitting. The black-soil surface slows through the innings and assists spin. KKR have selected accordingly, with Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine controlling the middle overs, Cameron Green covering two phases simultaneously, and Finn Allen delivering the explosive powerplay start the total needs before conditions tighten.

Why Mumbai Indians Lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 54th Match of IPL 2026: 3 Key Reasons

Mumbai Indians had RCB at 39/3 and needed 127 from that position to defend 166. They didn’t get it. Krunal Pandya’s 73 off 46 balls, 11 wides, a no-ball, and a bowling unit that lost discipline precisely when the match demanded the opposite combined to hand Royal Challengers Bengaluru a two-wicket win off the final ball at Raipur. Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 4/23 in the first innings and Jasprit Bumrah’s 20-run economy across four overs weren’t enough. Three specific failures explain why.
