Knight Riders’ Death-Over Bowling Struggles
Usman Tariq was the pick of the Trinbago attack, finishing with figures of 3 for 21, the best bowling return of the match. Terrance Hinds struck in the death overs to remove Andre Russell for 27 off 15 balls. Sunil Narine stayed tight through the middle overs, a trait that has held his tournament economy at 5.10 across ten matches, though even he leaked runs once Powell and Russell cut loose.
Nathan Edward finished with the most expensive figures on either side, 0 for 48. Between overs 8 and 15, Narine, Tariq, Akeal Hosein and Kieron Pollard combined to squeeze Kingsmen back to 36 for 3, leaving them needing 54 from the final 30 balls before the finish turned the contest around.
Kirk McKenzie was named Player of the Match for an innings that rewrote Jamaica Kingsmen’s record books. His 69 off 25 balls included 60 runs scored in boundaries alone, a new franchise mark that pushed past Andre Russell’s previous best of 54. That knock, paired with his 93-run stand alongside Hendricks, gave Kingsmen the early momentum they needed.
Russell and Rovman Powell then added their own record, 48 runs for the fifth wicket, the franchise’s best stand at that position in T20 cricket. The pair smashed 45 of those runs inside overs 17 and 18 alone. Hunain Shah was the pick of the Kingsmen bowlers during Trinbago’s innings, using well-directed yorkers to keep the required rate honest.
