Match 8 | LPL 2026 | Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Dambulla | Wednesday, 22 July 2026
Sam Harper has been Galle’s most destructive batter through two matches, and Reeza Hendricks produced Dambulla’s only real statement innings so far this season. Both arrive at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in form, on a pitch that rewards batters who move fast before spin takes over in the back half. Galle are unbeaten through two games. Dambulla are still searching for the consistency that turns one big innings into a winning habit. That gap alone could decide the contest.
Galle Gallants arrive at Dambulla unbeaten, having won both their opening matches under Dasun Shanaka’s captaincy. They beat Jaffna Kings by 36 runs in the tournament opener and followed it up with a five-wicket chase against Colombo Kaps, and the top order has fired in both wins.
Sam Harper leads that charge with 105 runs from two innings at an average of 52.50, including a 40 off 19 balls in the opener and 65 in the win over Colombo. Charith Asalanka has matched him with 93 runs across the same two knocks, striking at over 170, and Sahan Arachchige’s unbeaten 38 shows the middle order has more than just openers to rely on.
Wednesday’s game is the eighth match of the season, a night fixture at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium that pits Galle’s flying start against a Dambulla side still finding its best batting order. Both camps have shuffled personnel already this year. Galle lost Rassie van der Dussen before a ball was bowled and replaced him with Chris Lynn, while Litton Das’s injury opened a place for Nurul Hasan in the middle order.
Dinesh Chandimal captains the home side with Rangana Herath in the coaching box, and his squad leans on overseas power through Reeza Hendricks, Sahibzada Farhan, and Gulbadin Naib. None of that firepower has clicked together in the same innings yet, which is why the tourists start as slight favourites with the bat.
Dambulla’s own record reads 1-1, built on a comfortable 18-run win over Kandy Royals followed by a five-wicket defeat to Jaffna Kings where the whole batting order folded for 130. The only match that actually worked for them with the bat so far was the comfortable win over Kandy Royals.
Reeza Hendricks made 87 off 50 balls in that game, still the highest individual score by any Dambulla batter this season, and Gulbadin Naib’s unbeaten 46 alongside him showed what the middle order can do when the top order gives it a platform. Sahibzada Farhan’s 23 rounded out a strong batting performance that Dambulla have not repeated since.
Put the two top orders side by side, and the gap in output becomes clear. Galle have three batters striking well above 150, while Dambulla have exactly one big performer backed up by two others who have had one good day each.
| Batter | Team | Total Runs | Strike Rate |
| Sam Harper | Galle Gallants | 105 | 164.06 |
| Charith Asalanka | Galle Gallants | 93 | 157.62 |
| Sahan Arachchige | Galle Gallants | 73 | 182.50 |
| Reeza Hendricks | Dambulla Sixers | 87 | 174.00 |
| Gulbadin Naib | Dambulla Sixers | 46 | 200.00 |
| Sahibzada Farhan | Dambulla Sixers | 23 | 176.92 |
Dinesh Chandimal himself has yet to open his account, going without a run in either match so far this season.
Rangiri Dambulla holds 16,800 and has produced first-innings totals in the 160 to 168 range historically, numbers that favour batters willing to take on the field early. Chasing has actually worked more often here, with 14 of 24 completed T20Is won by the side bowling first, but spin still accounts for 57 percent of wickets across the last ten matches at the venue.
That split matters enormously for both camps. The new ball helps seamers inside the first six overs, then the pitch dries out and turns from the middle overs, right where Dambulla’s batting has repeatedly gone missing this season. Everything about the Dambulla Sixers vs Galle Gallants batters watch LPL 2026 build-up points to one truth: whoever survives the middle overs without losing wickets in bunches will bat deep enough to win it.
