Eliminator 1 | Major League Cricket 2026 Playoffs | Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, California | 15 July 2026
MI New York have finished fourth twice and won the title both times, and here they are again, fourth again, needing to win three straight knockouts starting against the team that just beat them. Nicholas Pooran’s form and Trent Boult’s new-ball wickets carry the template that’s worked before. Washington Freedom, fresh off winning at Match 29 and sitting third, arrive as the team with the head-to-head edge and the depth to end the pattern for good.
MI New York have made a habit of winning titles nobody saw coming from their league-stage position. In 2023, they finished fourth with two wins from five matches, then beat Washington Freedom in the Eliminator, Texas Super Kings in the Challenger, and Seattle Orcas in the final, chasing 184 with more than two overs to spare.
They repeated the same trick in 2025, again from fourth place, beating San Francisco Unicorns and Texas Super Kings before edging Washington Freedom by just 5 runs in the final. Quinton de Kock’s 77 in that final sealed it. No other MLC franchise has won a title from outside the top two, let alone twice.
This season’s fourth-place finish arrived without much comfort. MI New York picked up 10 points from 10 matches and were squeezed out of the top two on net run rate, losing their final league match to the very team they now face in the knockout.
Corbin Bosch has quietly been one of the squad’s most important all-round players this campaign, while Kieron Pollard’s cameo against Seattle Orcas showed the middle order still has finishing power in reserve whenever the top order actually clicks.
Washington Freedom finished third, level on points with MI New York but ahead on net run rate, and they arrive with the psychological edge of having won the only meeting between the two sides this season. Gous and Ravindra put on a partnership that overhauled MI New York’s total with wickets in hand.
Owen has been Washington’s most consistent run-scorer across the whole season, even though he fell cheaply the last time these two teams actually met. Netravalkar gives Washington a genuine new-ball threat against a top order still searching for rhythm.
Oakland Coliseum has hosted every single MLC playoff game since the format moved there, using drop-in pitches from Nassau County that also featured at the 2024 T20 World Cup in New York. Early seam movement gives way to true, batting-friendly conditions as the innings progresses, and teams batting first have generally had the better of it.
Finn Allen’s 151 off 51 balls in the 2025 season opener remains the ground’s benchmark score, a reminder of just how quickly this surface turns hitter-friendly once the bowlers lose their new-ball advantage. Dew becomes a factor under the lights from around the tenth over onward, which could matter if this game runs deep into the evening.
Pooran’s form is the swing factor for MI New York. He’s the only player in this fixture with a match-winning MLC final innings to his name, and this format punishes teams whose most dangerous batter goes quiet in a knockout.
| Player | Team | Recent Form | Key Stat |
| Nicholas Pooran | MI New York | 86 off 44 vs WSF | 137 not out in 2023 final |
| Trent Boult | MI New York | 2/33 vs WSF | 46 MLC wickets, all-time leader |
| Corbin Bosch | MI New York | Not specified separately | 83 runs and 12 wickets in 2026 |
| Andries Gous | Washington Freedom | 96 off 54 vs MINY | ILT20 highest score holder |
| Mitchell Owen | Washington Freedom | Out cheaply vs MINY | 344 runs, WSF’s top scorer |
| Saurabh Netravalkar | Washington Freedom | 2/29 vs MINY | 34 MLC wickets, USA leader |
For Washington, the Gous-Ravindra partnership that broke MI New York apart in their last meeting is the blueprint they’ll want to repeat, backed by Netravalkar’s control at the death. The MINY vs WSF MLC 2026 Eliminator 1 matchup will likely turn on whichever of these partnerships fires first, and history suggests betting against MI New York in a knockout carries its own risk.
