Match 22 | ETPL 2026 | The Village, Malahide, Dublin | 12 September 2026, 10:30 AM local
Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell are set to name largely unchanged elevens, but the pressure sits entirely with Rotterdam. A defeat at Malahide would drop them level with Amsterdam Flames in the race for third, which is why their team sheet matters more than Belfast’s on Saturday morning. Belfast already sit second with breathing room, so their selection reflects form rather than fear. Rotterdam’s XI, by contrast, has to balance Anrich Nortje’s control with enough batting depth to survive another top-order wobble.
Edinburgh Castle Rockers have all but sealed top spot with fifteen points from eight games, leaving the real fight for the Qualifier spot between Belfast Wolves and Rotterdam Dockers, who are level on nine points each after seven matches. Amsterdam Flames sit just two points behind with three games in hand still to play. A single washed-out match in August is the only blemish on this table.
Belfast hold a healthier net run rate heading into Saturday, which means Rotterdam effectively need a win to keep pace, since a loss would let Amsterdam close the gap with their next fixture. Three wins from Rotterdam’s remaining three matches would guarantee a top-three finish regardless of what anyone else does.
Neither camp has reported injuries, which points to two settled elevens at Malahide. Rotterdam are likely to stick with the same XI that beat Glasgow Cosmic in Match 19, built around Faf du Plessis and Michael Levitt opening, Heinrich Klaasen providing power in the middle, and Anrich Nortje anchoring the attack alongside David Wiese.
Belfast’s likely XI keeps Paul Stirling and Devon Conway at the top, Glenn Maxwell captaining from four, and Mark Chapman in the middle order after his 71 not out against Glasgow Cosmic. Chris Woakes and Rassie van der Dussen remain in the squad but have not featured in recent preview elevens for either side. Both elevens look settled enough that the toss may matter more than selection itself.
| Player | Team | Role | Batting Position |
| Faf du Plessis (c) | Rotterdam Dockers | Top-order batter | 2 |
| Anrich Nortje | Rotterdam Dockers | Pace bowler | 10 |
| Glenn Maxwell (c) | Belfast Wolves | Power hitter | 4 |
| Mark Chapman | Belfast Wolves | Middle-order batter | 5 |
Momentum Swings from the Last Three Games
Belfast arrive on a two-from-three run, beating Glasgow Cosmic by twenty-six runs on DLS before losing to Dublin Guardians by eight wickets, then recovering to beat Amsterdam Flames by five wickets with six balls in hand. Mark Chapman’s unbeaten 71 in that Glasgow win remains their most eye-catching individual score of the trio.
Rotterdam’s form reads the opposite way. A fifty-five-run defeat to Edinburgh and an eight-wicket loss to Amsterdam either side of a rain-affected win over Glasgow Cosmic leaves them needing consistency more than a single standout performance heading into Match 22. Neither side has managed to string together two dominant performances in a row, which makes current form a shaky guide for Saturday.
ETPL 2026 is a debut season, and these two sides have only met once, in Match 6 back in August, which finished with no result after rain arrived one over into Rotterdam’s chase. Belfast had posted 156 for nine, and the Dockers were 5 without loss when the players left the field for good.
That washout means Saturday is effectively a first competitive result between these franchises, with no history of head-to-head form to lean on for either captain. Whatever happens at Malahide will set the tone for how this fixture is remembered going forward. Both franchises will be desperate to finally get a result on the board against each other before the season runs out.
Rotterdam’s biggest call is whether Ben Manenti or Saqib Zulfiqar offers better control against a Belfast top order stacked with left- and right-handers in quick succession. Both bowl similar overs, but Zulfiqar’s variations have looked sharper in recent nets, while Manenti brings more experience of tight finishes.
Belfast face a smaller dilemma. Netravalkar and Humphreys are competing for the final seamer’s spot, and whoever wins that battle changes how Glenn Maxwell sets his field at the death. Get either selection wrong, and the Rotterdam Dockers vs Belfast Wolves ETPL 2026 lineup battle could swing on a single bowling change rather than anything the batters do.
