The Edinburgh Castle Rockers will look to continue their remarkable run in the inaugural European T20 Premier League when they take on the Rotterdam Dockers in Match 27 on September 15. The fixture will be played at The Village, Malahide, Dublin, with the two sides meeting for the second time in the tournament.
Edinburgh have been the standout team in the competition so far. They remain unbeaten and recently defeated Dublin Guardians by 12 runs, posting 174/4 before restricting their opponents to 162/8. Brandon McMullen starred with an unbeaten 69, while Tom Curran claimed two wickets.
The Rockers also defeated Rotterdam by 55 runs in their previous meeting on September 5, bowling them out for just 93 after scoring 148.
Here is Edinburgh Castle Rockers’ Predicted Playing XI against Rotterdam Dockers:
Ross Adair is expected to continue opening the innings. The Ireland international has provided Edinburgh with an aggressive option at the top and can put pressure on the opposition during the powerplay.
JJ Smuts should partner Adair. The South African all-rounder has been one of Edinburgh’s most dangerous batters and famously smashed 98 against Belfast Wolves earlier in the tournament. His ability to contribute with the ball also adds considerable value to the XI.
Andries Gous is likely to occupy the No. 3 position and continue behind the stumps. The wicketkeeper-batter played a crucial role against Dublin, scoring a valuable 50.
His ability to attack spin and pace makes him an important bridge between Edinburgh’s aggressive opening pair and their powerful middle order. Gous’ wicketkeeping also provides stability to a side with several bowling options.
Brandon McMullen has emerged as one of the most important players in Edinburgh’s campaign. The Scottish all-rounder produced an unbeaten 69 against Dublin and was also named Player of the Match after his 82 not out against Glasgow.
McMullen’s ability to score quickly while contributing with the ball gives Mitchell Santner tremendous flexibility. He is almost certain to retain his place at No. 4.
Laurie Evans is expected to slot into the middle order. The experienced English batter brings stability and can increase the scoring rate once the fielding restrictions are lifted.
His presence also gives Edinburgh another experienced batter capable of handling pressure situations, particularly if Rotterdam manage to pick up early wickets.
Gareth Delany should continue at No. 6. The Irish all-rounder offers another useful combination of batting aggression and leg-spin bowling.
With several bowling options already available to Santner, Delany’s ability to contribute in both departments allows the captain to adjust his attack according to the match situation.
Captain Mitchell Santner remains central to Edinburgh’s plans. The New Zealand all-rounder can control the middle overs with his left-arm spin while also providing explosive batting lower down the order.
Santner’s leadership will be particularly important against a Rotterdam side containing experienced players such as Faf du Plessis and Heinrich Klaasen.
Tom Curran is likely to retain his place as one of Edinburgh’s principal pace-bowling all-rounders. He has consistently provided wickets in the tournament and claimed two against Dublin in the Rockers’ latest victory.
His variations at the death make him a crucial part of the bowling attack.
Mark Watt should lead the spin attack alongside Santner. The Scotland international can be particularly effective during the middle overs, where his accuracy can restrict Rotterdam’s aggressive batters.
His presence also allows Santner to attack from the other end rather than shouldering the entire spin workload.
Jack Jarvis is another bowler expected to retain his spot. He has provided Edinburgh with a reliable pace option and adds variety to an attack that already contains several experienced bowlers.
His role could become particularly important if Rotterdam’s top order gets off to a quick start.
Trent Boult completes the predicted XI and remains Edinburgh’s biggest threat with the new ball. He has been their leading wicket-taker in the tournament, with 13 wickets, and his ability to swing the ball early makes him a major weapon against Rotterdam’s top order.
