The Jamaica Kingsmen will take on the Barbados Tridents in the Eliminator of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown on September 16. With both teams meeting just days after their thrilling league-stage encounter, the Kingsmen will be eager to make the necessary adjustments and keep their campaign alive in the knockout phase.
Jamaica finished the league stage in fourth place after winning four of their eight matches. Their latest outing against Barbados ended in a dramatic two-wicket defeat, despite the Kingsmen posting 150/9. Maaz Sadaqat top-scored with 47 off 34 deliveries, while Andre Russell provided a late burst with 10 off just four balls.
The Kingsmen’s latest XI also provides a strong indication of the combination they could use in the Eliminator. Saim Ayub remains part of the squad, but he missed the previous match, while the side’s established combination includes Maaz Sadaqat, Usman Khan, Rovman Powell, Andre Russell and Hunain Shah.
Here is the predicted playing XI of Jamaica Kingsmen for their Eliminator against Barbados Tridents:
Maaz Sadaqat is likely to continue opening the innings after producing one of Jamaica’s better batting performances in their last game. The left-hander scored 47 off 34 balls against Barbados and gave the Kingsmen a solid platform at the top.
His ability to rotate the strike while also finding boundaries makes him an important player in the powerplay. Another substantial contribution from Sadaqat could provide the foundation Jamaica need in a knockout game.
Kirk McKenzie is expected to retain his place at the top of the order. He made 11 off 13 balls in the previous meeting but has the ability to attack during the field restrictions.
Jamaica could look for McKenzie to play with greater intent this time around, particularly against Barbados’ spinners.
Keacy Carty could continue at No. 3, giving Jamaica a technically sound option in the middle of the batting order.
The right-hander can play the role of an accumulator before accelerating later in the innings. His ability to handle pressure will be particularly important in a knockout fixture.
Usman Khan is expected to continue as the wicketkeeper-batter. He scored 18 off 17 balls in the previous encounter and will be looking for a more substantial contribution at Kensington Oval.
His aggressive approach makes him capable of changing the tempo quickly once he settles in.
Captain Rovman Powell remains the central figure in Jamaica’s middle order. He has been their leading run-scorer in CPL 2026, accumulating 221 runs during the league phase.
Powell, however, managed only eight runs in the previous match against Barbados. The Kingsmen will want their captain to produce a more influential knock when the stakes are significantly higher.
Andre Russell is likely to remain Jamaica’s primary power-hitting option. Although he scored only 10 in the last game, he struck those runs from four deliveries, underlining his ability to change the complexion of an innings almost instantly.
Russell also contributed with the ball in the previous meeting, taking one wicket while bowling his full four-over spell.
Hassan Khan should retain his place as a versatile all-rounder. He scored 16 off 12 balls against Barbados and also picked up a wicket with the ball.
His ability to contribute in both departments gives Powell flexibility when managing the middle overs.
Keemo Paul is expected to feature as another seam-bowling all-rounder. He scored five runs in the previous game but bowled four overs and picked up the important wicket of Daniel Sams.
His variations can be particularly useful at the death, while his lower-order batting adds depth to the lineup.
Odean Smith should continue as one of Jamaica’s pace options. He is capable of generating considerable pace and bounce while also providing six-hitting ability down the order.
Smith bowled two overs in the previous encounter and will be hoping for a larger role in the Eliminator if conditions favour pace.
Vitel Lawes is likely to retain his place after bowling four overs and taking a wicket in the last meeting. He conceded 26 runs but offered Powell an important option with the ball.
His ability to bowl different lengths could make him useful against Barbados’ aggressive middle order.
Hunain Shah is expected to spearhead the Jamaica bowling attack. The Pakistan quick has taken 14 wickets in CPL 2026, making him the Kingsmen’s leading wicket-taker in the competition.
He also made an impact in the previous meeting, dismissing both Brandon King and Chris Green while finishing with figures of 2/25.
Predicted Playing XI: Maaz Sadaqat, Kirk McKenzie, Keacy Carty, Usman Khan (WK), Rovman Powell (C), Andre Russell, Hassan Khan, Keemo Paul, Odean Smith, Vitel Lawes, Hunain Shah.
