The Jamaica Kingsmen will look to continue their impressive run when they take on the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in Match 18 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 at Warner Park in Basseterre on August 27. The Kingsmen have already defeated the Patriots once in the tournament, securing a convincing 51-run victory at Sabina Park. They will now aim to complete a season double over Jason Holder’s side.
Jamaica have produced an encouraging campaign in their first CPL season under the Kingsmen identity. After a difficult beginning, Rovman Powell’s team found momentum with consecutive victories over the Trinbago Knight Riders and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. They subsequently suffered a six-wicket defeat against the Saint Lucia Kings, meaning the team will be eager to return to winning ways.
Despite the setback against Saint Lucia, Jamaica are unlikely to make too many changes to their combination. Their most recent XI has plenty of balance, with experienced international campaigners such as Andre Russell and Reeza Hendricks complemented by exciting young talent.
Kirk McKenzie and Reeza Hendricks are expected to continue as Jamaica’s opening pair.
McKenzie has been used as an aggressive option at the top and will be looking to provide the Kingsmen with a strong start. He was dismissed for a duck in the previous meeting against the Patriots, so a substantial contribution at Warner Park would be particularly valuable.
Hendricks, meanwhile, brings considerable experience to the top order. The South African right-hander has already shown his ability to score quickly in the powerplay and played a 42-run knock against Barbados earlier in the tournament. He made 19 against the Patriots in the previous meeting.
Jamaica will hope the opening duo can survive the initial challenge from the Patriots’ pace attack.
Usman Khan is expected to continue as the wicketkeeper-batter at No. 3.
The Pakistan-born batter has been given responsibility in the top order and can provide stability after the openers. His ability to rotate the strike will be important if Jamaica lose an early wicket.
He scored 13 from 17 balls in the previous clash against the Patriots. Although that innings was not particularly fluent, the Kingsmen management could back him to produce a stronger performance at Warner Park.
Keacy Carty is likely to follow at No. 4, with captain Rovman Powell expected at No. 5.
Carty has the ability to anchor an innings while also accelerating when required. However, he was dismissed for a duck against the Patriots in the previous meeting and will be keen to make a greater impact this time.
Powell remains one of Jamaica’s most important players. The captain has been among the team’s leading run-scorers during the competition and smashed 49 off 39 balls against the Patriots. He also played a key role in Jamaica’s 201-run total against Barbados earlier in the tournament.
His ability to attack spin and pace makes him a dangerous middle-order batter, particularly if he reaches the final five overs with wickets in hand.
Andre Russell is expected to retain his place at No. 6 and will once again be one of Jamaica’s biggest match-winners.
Russell’s value extends beyond his explosive batting. He can bowl crucial overs at different stages of an innings and gives Powell tremendous tactical flexibility.
Although he scored only 14 not out in the previous game against the Patriots, Russell has already demonstrated his ability to change matches. He smashed a quickfire 20-ball 42 against Barbados and also contributed with the ball during Jamaica’s campaign.
His role could become particularly important at Warner Park, where the Kingsmen may need late-innings acceleration.
Hassan Khan is likely to occupy the No. 7 position, with Keemo Paul following him.
Khan offers Jamaica another spin-bowling option and can contribute valuable runs down the order. Keemo Paul, meanwhile, enters the contest in excellent form.
Paul was the star of Jamaica’s previous victory over the Patriots, scoring a sensational 65 off 36 balls, including five fours and five sixes. He then returned to claim three wickets for 30 runs. His all-round performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
His presence gives Powell one of the most useful all-round options in the tournament.
Odean Smith, Vitel Lawes and Hunain Shah are expected to complete Jamaica’s XI.
Smith provides another powerful all-round option and can be particularly effective with the ball during the middle and death overs. Lawes adds further pace and variety, while young fast bowler Hunain Shah has impressed with his ability to generate pace.
The combination gives Powell multiple options alongside Russell and Paul, allowing him to rotate his seamers according to match-ups.
