South Africa will look to complete a 3-0 series sweep when they take on Namibia in the third and final ODI at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek on September 13. The Proteas have already wrapped up the series after winning the second ODI by a commanding 157 runs, following their 99-run DLS victory in the opening game.
The young South African side has been one of the biggest positives of the tour. Captain Bjorn Fortuin is leading a squad assembled largely around emerging talent, with several players getting valuable exposure at international level.
The second ODI saw Connor Esterhuizen register his maiden ODI century, scoring 119 off 110 balls, while Tony de Zorzi made a fluent 79. Duan Jansen then produced an excellent spell with four wickets as Namibia were bowled out for 178.
With the series already secured, South Africa could potentially experiment with their combination. However, given the dominant performance in the second game, continuity could be the preferred approach.
Here is the predicted South Africa playing XI for the third ODI against Namibia:
Jordan Hermann should continue at the top of the order. The left-handed opener announced himself in spectacular fashion in the first ODI, smashing 150 on debut.
Although he managed only 20 in the second match, Hermann remains one of South Africa’s most exciting batting prospects. Another opportunity against Namibia will allow him to finish the series strongly.
Connor Esterhuizen is almost certain to retain his place after producing a sensational maiden ODI century in the second game.
The wicketkeeper-batter scored 119 from 110 deliveries, including eight fours and six sixes, and formed the foundation of South Africa’s 335/9. His performance makes him one of the most important players to watch in the series finale.
Tony de Zorzi should continue at No. 3. The left-hander followed his 72 in the first ODI with an impressive 79 in the second.
His ability to build an innings while maintaining a healthy scoring rate has given South Africa valuable stability at the top. He will be keen to convert another start into a century.
Matthew Breetzke is expected to retain his place after replacing Corbin Bosch in the second ODI.
The right-hander had a brief outing, scoring four runs before being dismissed by Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton. Nevertheless, South Africa could give him another opportunity to gain experience at international level.
Dewald Brevis should continue in the middle order. The explosive batter made 37 off 30 balls in the second ODI, striking three sixes and providing valuable momentum.
Brevis remains one of the most dangerous hitters in the squad and could be given greater responsibility if South Africa lose wickets early.
Jason Smith is likely to retain his position as the experienced middle-order all-rounder. He scored 18 in the second ODI and provides South Africa with another seam-bowling option.
His ability to contribute in both departments gives captain Fortuin additional flexibility, particularly if the team decides to rotate its specialist bowlers.
Eathan Bosch should continue as the pace-bowling all-rounder. He made an immediate impact in the second ODI, taking three wickets for 27 runs.
His ability to generate pace and extract movement makes him an important component of South Africa’s attack. Bosch will also add useful depth to the lower order.
Duan Jansen is another player who should be a certainty after his outstanding second ODI.
The left-arm all-rounder claimed four wickets for 31 runs, dismantling Namibia’s batting order and earning significant praise for his performance. After such a display, South Africa will be reluctant to leave him out of the XI.
Prenelan Subrayen should continue to lead the side in the third ODI. Although Fortuin was named the original captain of the tour squad, Subrayen captained the second ODI and could retain the leadership role if the same XI is selected.
His off-spin also gives South Africa a valuable middle-overs option.
Nqabayomzi Peter should retain his place after replacing Bjorn Fortuin in the second ODI.
The spinner provides variety to a bowling attack dominated by pace and gives Subrayen another option during the middle overs. With the series won, South Africa could continue investing in his development.
Nqobani Mokoena is expected to complete the XI. The young seamer retained his place in the second game after coming into the side for Kwena Maphaka.
Mokoena provides another pace option and will be eager to make a bigger impact in the final ODI after a relatively quiet outing in the second match.
Jordan Hermann, Connor Esterhuizen (WK), Tony de Zorzi, Matthew Breetzke, Dewald Brevis, Jason Smith, Eathan Bosch, Duan Jansen, Prenelan Subrayen (C), Nqabayomzi Peter, Nqobani Mokoena
