Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) will take on Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) in Match 22 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba on August 31. The fixture will be an important one for TKR, who will be looking to bounce back after their narrow defeat to Jamaica Kingsmen in their previous outing.
TKR have endured an inconsistent campaign so far, with two wins and four defeats leaving them fifth in the points table. However, their batting unit has shown enough quality to suggest that they can turn their fortunes around. Colin Munro has been their leading run-scorer with 216 runs, while Nicholas Pooran and Sunil Narine have also produced impactful performances.
The Knight Riders will face a confident Guyana Amazon Warriors side, who have won three matches and come into this contest after a commanding seven-wicket victory over Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. Shamar Joseph has been among their leading wicket-takers, while Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer have provided plenty of firepower with the bat.
With the match expected to be played on a batting-friendly surface at the Brian Lara Stadium, TKR could opt for a strong batting-heavy combination while retaining enough bowling depth.
Here is the predicted playing XI of Trinbago Knight Riders for Match 22 of CPL 2026 against Guyana Amazon Warriors:
Colin Munro should continue to open the innings for TKR.
The New Zealand left-hander has been the team’s leading run-scorer in CPL 2026, with 216 runs to his name. He also struck 52 off 42 balls in TKR’s previous completed innings against Jamaica Kingsmen.
Munro’s experience at the top will be crucial against Guyana’s varied bowling attack. His ability to attack the Powerplay while also pacing an innings makes him an important part of TKR’s batting plans.
Alex Hales is likely to partner Munro at the top.
The Englishman gives TKR another aggressive option in the Powerplay. Hales has built a reputation as one of the most destructive opening batters in T20 cricket and can put pressure on the opposition from the outset.
Against Guyana’s new-ball bowlers, Hales will be expected to target anything in his hitting zone and provide TKR with the kind of start they need.
Nicholas Pooran should continue at No. 3 and handle the wicketkeeping duties.
The TKR captain was in outstanding form in the team’s previous game, smashing 60 off just 37 balls against Jamaica Kingsmen.
Pooran’s ability to manipulate the field and clear the ropes makes him arguably the most dangerous batter in the TKR lineup. He will also have a crucial leadership role against a Guyana side packed with match-winners.
Jyd Goolie could retain his place in the middle order.
The Trinidadian batter offers a left-handed option and can play according to the match situation. If TKR lose early wickets, Goolie can help rebuild the innings, while a strong start from Munro and Hales would allow him to attack the spinners.
His ability to rotate the strike will also be valuable against Guyana’s spin options.
Kieron Pollard is expected to come in at No. 5.
The veteran all-rounder remains one of TKR’s most experienced players and is capable of changing the game in a handful of deliveries. His power-hitting makes him an ideal finisher, while his experience gives Pooran another tactical option with the ball.
Pollard’s role could become particularly important against Guyana’s spinners during the middle and death overs.
Matthew Breetzke is likely to provide additional batting depth.
The South African batter is capable of playing aggressive cricket but can also adapt his approach depending on the situation. His presence at No. 6 gives TKR another player capable of accelerating during the latter half of the innings.
If Pooran and Pollard establish a platform, Breetzke could be given licence to attack.
Terrance Hinds should feature as the team’s pace-bowling all-rounder.
Hinds provides TKR with useful depth in both departments. He can hit the ball cleanly down the order and offer seam bowling when required.
His ability to bowl variations could also prove valuable at the death, particularly against Guyana’s powerful hitters such as Hetmyer and Romario Shepherd.
Sunil Narine is expected to slot in at No. 8.
The veteran all-rounder produced one of his best batting performances of the season in TKR’s previous match, smashing 53 off only 24 deliveries.
Narine’s biggest value, however, remains his bowling. His economical mystery spin can put the brakes on the scoring rate during the middle overs, and his matchup against Guyana’s right-handed batters could be crucial.
Akeal Hosein should partner Narine in the spin department.
The left-arm orthodox spinner offers excellent control and can bowl during the Powerplay as well as the middle overs. His ability to attack the stumps and keep the run rate under control makes him an important component of TKR’s bowling attack.
Against a Guyana batting lineup featuring Glenn Phillips, Shai Hope and Hetmyer, Hosein’s discipline will be tested.
Usman Tariq is likely to retain his place as another specialist spin option.
Tariq has been TKR’s leading wicket-taker in CPL 2026, with seven scalps to his name.
His wicket-taking ability makes him particularly valuable in the middle overs. TKR could rely on his variations to disrupt Guyana’s momentum, especially when the Warriors’ aggressive middle order begins to attack.
Nathan Edward could complete the XI as the specialist seamer.
The left-arm quick offers a different angle to TKR’s bowling attack and can contribute during the Powerplay and death overs. His ability to bowl hard lengths and mix his pace gives Pooran another useful option.
With the Brian Lara Stadium expected to offer plenty for batters, Edward’s ability to execute his variations accurately will be vital.
Colin Munro, Alex Hales, Nicholas Pooran (C/WK), Jyd Goolie, Kieron Pollard, Matthew Breetzke, Terrance Hinds, Sunil Narine, Akeal Hosein, Usman Tariq, Nathan Edward
