Sarah Taylor redefined wicketkeeping in women’s cricket with her exceptional glovework and fearless batting. Throughout the 2010s, she consistently produced moments of brilliance behind the stumps, especially with her trademark leg-side stumpings that often went viral among cricket fans worldwide.

Apart from being one of the finest wicketkeepers the game has ever seen, Taylor was also a world-class batter who played crucial roles in several memorable triumphs for England women’s national cricket team, including their World Cup and World T20 double in 2009 and the iconic 2017 Women’s World Cup victory at home.

Here are top three performances of Sarah Taylor in international cricket:

120 vs Australia Women, Chelmsford, 2009

One of Taylor’s most memorable knocks came against Australia women in the second ODI at Chelmsford in 2009. England registered a convincing 55-run victory after posting 259/6 in their allotted overs. Taylor was the star of the innings, smashing 120 runs off 120 balls with the help of 12 boundaries. Her elegant stroke play and ability to dominate the Australian attack stood out throughout the innings.

For Australia, Sarah Andrews picked up 2/46 in 10 overs. In reply, Australia were bowled out for 204 in 43.4 overs despite Shelley Nitschke scoring 47 runs. England’s bowling attack shared the spoils, with Nicky Shaw taking 3/39 and Laura Marsh claiming 3/33. Taylor’s century also helped her surpass Enid Bakewell’s record for the highest individual ODI score by an Englishwoman against Australia at the time.

147 vs South Africa Women, Bristol, 2017

Taylor produced another unforgettable innings during the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup against South Africa women in Bristol. England Women posted a massive 373/5, one of the highest totals in Women’s World Cup history. While Tammy Beaumont starred with 148, Taylor nearly matched her with a breathtaking 147 off just 104 deliveries. Her innings included 24 fours and came at a remarkable strike rate of 141.34.

Taylor’s aggressive yet graceful batting completely dismantled the South African bowling attack. Marizanne Kapp was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/77. South Africa fought hard in the chase, reaching 305/9, thanks to contributions from Laura Wolvaardt (67), Lizelle Lee (72), and Chloe Tryon (54). However, England eventually secured a 68-run victory, with Danielle Hazell taking 3/70.

109 vs New Zealand Women, Lincoln, 2012

Taylor once again showcased her class in the third ODI against New Zealand women at Lincoln in 2012. New Zealand posted 220 runs, with Amy Satterthwaite scoring 58 and Katie Perkins contributing 51. England’s bowlers impressed collectively, as Laura Marsh took 3/28 and Danni Wyatt-Hodge finished with 3/36.

Chasing 221, England comfortably reached the target in 42.4 overs, largely due to Taylor’s brilliant 109 off 113 balls. Her innings included nine fours and highlighted her ability to anchor a chase with composure and elegance. Rachel Candy picked up 2/35, but Taylor’s century ensured England sealed a six-wicket win.
