Match 17 | Caribbean Premier League 2026 | Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba | 26 August 2026
Trinbago had the chase under control at 70 without loss after six overs, and then Roston Chase bowled five balls that ended it. His triple-wicket over stripped out Narine, Breetzke and Pooran inside minutes, turning a straightforward chase of 212 into a rescue mission Kieron Pollard alone couldn’t finish. Seifert’s century gave St Lucia the total to defend, but it was Chase’s over eight that actually decided the outcome, and Trinbago never recovered the momentum they’d built inside the powerplay.
None of what followed happens without Tim Seifert’s innings first. His 105 not out off 61 balls was the first individual hundred of the CPL season, dragging St Lucia to 211 for 4, the highest total posted in the competition.
He didn’t do it alone. A sixty-run opening stand gave way to a seventy-five-run partnership with Campbell, then a further fifty-one with Asalanka, three stands that kept the innings accelerating rather than stalling. Two hundred and twelve was always going to test a Trinbago top order that had looked fluent in patches but brittle under pressure all tournament.
Munro and Narine gave the chase exactly the platform it needed, racing to seventy without loss inside the powerplay and putting the required rate under control. Then Roston Chase took the ball for over eight and bowled the spell that decided the match.
In the space of five deliveries, he removed Narine for 25, then Breetzke and Pooran without either scoring, turning seventy without loss into seventy for four in one over. Chase finished with figures of three for 24 from his four overs. Matthew Forde added the second blow later, catching and bowling Pollard, but it was that over-eight collapse that took the chase from comfortable to nearly impossible.
With the required rate suddenly close to twelve an over, Kieron Pollard produced the only meaningful resistance left. His 65 off 26 balls, reaching fifty from just 21 deliveries, briefly made the chase look alive again.
It wasn’t enough support around him. Matthew Tromp managed 15 and Jyd Goolie chipped in 16 not out, but neither found the strike rate needed once Pollard fell to Forde’s return catch. Trinbago’s death overs produced 44 runs for one wicket, a reasonable return in isolation, but by then the equation had slipped well beyond what a rapid finish could rescue.
This defeat leaves Trinbago with three losses from four matches, sitting sixth on the points table with a net run rate of minus 0.148. Only one win, back in Match 2, sits on the ledger so far. St Lucia’s 211 for 4 was CPL 2026’s highest score at the time, which makes the defeat harder to shrug off. A chase that started at nearly even money finished 36 runs short, and that gap between promise and collapse is now the story of Trinbago’s campaign.
Games like this compound quickly in a short tournament, and there’s little margin left for another such collapse against a team still chasing a top-four finish this year.
| Phase | Runs | Wickets | Key Event |
| Powerplay (Overs 1-6) | 64 | 0 | Narine and Munro race to an unbeaten opening stand |
| Overs 7-8 (The Collapse) | 6 | 3 | Chase’s triple-wicket over: Narine, Breetzke and Pooran fall |
| Middle Overs (9-15) | 61 | 2 | Munro departs for 48; Pollard counter-attacks with 65 off 26 |
| Death Overs (16-20) | 44 | 1 | Pollard caught and bowled by Forde; Tromp and Goolie fall short |
| Full Innings | 175/6 | 6 | Trinbago finish 36 runs short of St Lucia’s 211/4 |
Sixty-four runs without loss in the powerplay, then just six runs for three wickets across two overs, tells the story of how quickly this game turned. The middle and death overs actually outscored that opening burst, but the damage was already done.
That five-ball spell is the clearest example yet of how a single over can define a chase regardless of everything built before or after it, and this TKR vs St Lucia Kings CPL 2026 turning point sits at the centre of everything that went wrong for Trinbago in Match 17.
