The 11th iteration of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) marks a definitive departure from its decade-long status quo. After sticking to a six-team model since 2018, the PCB has finally moved forward with a sweeping structural pivot. Scheduled to run from March 26 to May 10, 2026, this year’s tournament represents the league’s most aggressive—and perhaps its most politically charged—expansion to date.
This expansion is more than a simple numerical increase; it reflects a total recalibration of the league’s commercial intent.

While the financial spreadsheets look promising, the rollout has been marred by significant off-field tension.
The expansion pushes the PSL’s reach deeper into the provincial heartlands. Matches are slated for distribution across six primary hubs:
| Venue | Primary Tenants | Significance |
| Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore | Lahore Qalandars | Set to host the Opening Ceremony and the Final |
| Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad | Sialkot Stallionz | Marks Faisalabad’s return as a premier host city |
| National Bank Cricket Arena | Karachi Kings / Hyderabad Kingsmen | The primary center for the southern group clashes |
| Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium | Islamabad United / Pindiz | Historically, a “batter’s paradise” with flat tracks |
| Multan Cricket Stadium | Quetta Gladiators | Retains its status as one of the most atmospheric hubs |
The 2026 season is a high-stakes gamble on the part of the PCB. The logic appears to suggest that regional rivalries and increased match volume will eventually quiet the “governance noise” and scheduling headaches. While the dissolution of Multan and the legal circus in Sialkot have provided plenty of tabloid fodder, the real test begins on March 26. If these new franchises can truly galvanize the supporters in Faisalabad and Hyderabad, the PSL may finally secure its position as a clear alternative to the global giants.
The franchise was dissolved after Ali Tareen declined to renew his agreement, reportedly due to fundamental management disagreements with the board. The license was subsequently auctioned and relocated to Rawalpindi.
It appears not. Amidst ongoing bilateral frostiness, the PCB has reportedly opted to withhold broadcast rights for the Indian market for the current season.
There are no “away goals” or points-sharing in the knockouts. Tied playoff games are decided strictly via a Super Over.
The winning side will take home US$500,000. The runners-up are set to receive an increased purse of US$300,000, a notable jump from previous years.
