Match 47 of the Indian Premier League 2026 will see Mumbai Indians (MI) lock horns with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on May 4.

Mumbai Indians are enduring a forgettable campaign this season. Led by Hardik Pandya, the five-time champions have managed just two wins from nine matches and are staring at early elimination. With only four points so far, every game from here is virtually a knockout for MI.

LSG find themselves in a similarly difficult position. Under Rishabh Pant, they are currently at the bottom of the table with just two wins in eight outings. Their recent run has been particularly disappointing, and they will be desperate to snap a five-match winless streak.

Predicted Playing XI

Mumbai Indians (MI)

Top Order: Will Jacks, Ryan Rickelton (wk), Naman Dhir

MI are likely to persist with Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton at the top despite inconsistent returns. Rickelton has been a bright spot, scoring 297 runs this season, while Jacks offers value with both bat and ball. Naman Dhir is expected to retain his No. 3 position after a promising outing in the previous game. With Wankhede known for high-scoring contests, a strong start will be crucial.

Middle Order: Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya (c), Robin Minz

The middle order has underperformed so far. Suryakumar Yadav hasn’t hit top gear, managing just 183 runs, while Tilak Varma has lacked consistency apart from his standout century earlier in the season. Hardik Pandya’s struggles with the bat have further hurt MI’s finishing ability. Robin Minz, known for his aggressive style, is still searching for a breakthrough performance.

Bowlers: Krish Bhagat, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, AM Ghazanfar

The bowling attack continues to revolve around Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah, although both have not been at their peak this season. Boult’s lack of impact in the powerplay has been a concern, while Bumrah has been economical but short on wickets. Afghan spinner AM Ghazanfar has been a standout performer with 11 wickets, especially in the middle overs. Krish Bhagat adds depth as an additional option.

Mumbai Indians (MI):

Will Jacks, Ryan Rickelton (WK), Naman Dhir, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya (C), Robin Minz, Krish Bhagat, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, AM Ghazanfar

Impact Player: Raghu Sharma

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

Top Order: Mitchell Marsh, Ayush Badoni, Rishabh Pant (c & wk)

LSG’s top order has not lived up to expectations this season. Mitchell Marsh remains their leading run-scorer with 212 runs but has not converted starts consistently. Ayush Badoni has shown glimpses of promise, while skipper Rishabh Pant has struggled for rhythm despite trying different batting positions.

Middle Order: Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Mukul Choudhary, George Linde

Despite a star-studded lineup, the middle order has not delivered consistently. Mukul Choudhary has been a rare positive, emerging as one of their better performers. Nicholas Pooran’s poor form has been a major concern, with the West Indian struggling to make an impact this season. Aiden Markram and George Linde provide balance but need to contribute more significantly.

Bowlers: Digvesh Singh Rathi, Mohsin Khan, Mohammed Shami, Prince Yadav

The bowling unit has been LSG’s stronger suit. Prince Yadav has impressed with 13 wickets and has been well-supported by Mohsin Khan, who has also delivered key breakthroughs. Mohammed Shami brings experience and leadership to the attack, while Digvesh Singh Rathi adds variety with his mystery spin.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG):

Mitchell Marsh, Ayush Badoni, Rishabh Pant (C & WK), Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Mukul Choudhary, George Linde, Digvesh Singh Rathi, Mohsin Khan, Mohammed Shami, Prince Yadav

Impact Player: Manimaran Siddharth

Which Bowler Between Aziz Amir and Hawoe Makes MAS vs INA 2026 4th T20I Impossible

Three bowlers carry enough current form to decide this match alone. Syed Aziz brings 71 wickets across 74 innings and a best of 4 for 9. Amir Khan took 3 for 17 in his only outing this series. Danilson Hawoe counters with 90 wickets across 96 innings and a best of 4 for 18. Variable pace and grip on these surfaces reward wicket-takers over accumulators. Batting depth matters less when one spell dismantles a lineup before the 12th over; whoever strikes first changes the match before either team’s batting plan survives contact.

Which Powerplay Batter will destroy CSK’s IPL 2026 Match 48 Plan Before Delhi Dew Arrives

KL Rahul has scored 433 runs across nine innings at a strike rate of 185.83. That number makes him the most dangerous powerplay batter either side brings to Arun Jaitley Stadium. Tristan Stubbs extends the threat into the middle overs with 219 runs at 139.49. Against them, Kuldeep Yadav and Lungi Ngidi carry CSK’s only realistic plan for containing a venue that produced a 264-run successful chase earlier this season. Dew arrives late and makes chasing easier. Whoever decides this match will do it before that dew settles.

Why Hyderabad Kingsmen Lost to Peshawar Zalmi in the Final Match of PSL 2026: 3 Key Reasons

Hyderabad Kingsmen were 51 for 2 in the fourth over. They finished on 129 all out in 18 overs. That collapse didn’t happen to them. They built it delivery by delivery through poor strike rotation, dot-ball panic, and a lower order that contributed almost nothing. Peshawar Zalmi chased 130 in 15.2 overs. The margin wasn’t a result. It was an indictment. Three specific failures decided this final before the 10th over of either innings.
