On this day in 2023, Yashasvi Jaiswal created history in the Indian Premier League by smashing the fastest half-century in the tournament’s history. Representing Rajasthan Royals against Kolkata Knight Riders at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the left-handed batter reached his fifty in just 13 balls and finished unbeaten on a sensational 98 off 47 deliveries.

Batting first, Kolkata Knight Riders posted 149/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Venkatesh Iyer was the standout performer for KKR with a fighting 57 off 42 balls, which included two fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 135.71. However, Rajasthan’s bowlers kept the opposition under pressure throughout the innings.

Veteran leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal produced a brilliant spell, claiming 4/25 in four overs. The performance also helped him become the all-time leading wicket-taker in IPL history. Left-arm pacer Trent Boult provided excellent support by taking 2/15 and striking at crucial moments.

Chasing 150, Rajasthan suffered an early setback when Jos Buttler was run out in unfortunate fashion. However, the dismissal did not affect Jaiswal’s aggressive intent. The young batter launched a fearless assault on Kolkata’s bowling attack right from the outset and completely dominated the powerplay.

Jaiswal tore into the bowlers, collecting 26 runs in the very first over and racing to his half-century in just 13 balls, breaking the previous IPL record jointly held by KL Rahul and Pat Cummins, who had both reached the milestone in 14 deliveries. His innings also became the second-fastest T20 half-century ever, only behind Yuvraj Singh’s iconic 12-ball fifty against England in the 2007 T20 World Cup.

At the end of the six-over powerplay, Rajasthan Royals had stormed to 78/1, with Jaiswal alone contributing 62 runs. His innings was a perfect blend of timing, power, and innovation. He used his feet brilliantly against the spinners, found gaps with ease, and punished every loose delivery. The left-hander smashed 12 fours and five sixes during his breathtaking knock.

Jaiswal was well-supported by Rajasthan skipper Sanju Samson, who played a composed unbeaten innings of 49 from 29 balls. Together, the duo stitched a match-winning partnership of 121 runs off just 69 deliveries, leaving Kolkata’s bowlers completely helpless. None of KKR’s seven bowlers managed to pick up a wicket during the stand as Rajasthan chased down the target with remarkable ease.

The Royals eventually reached 151/1 in only 13.1 overs, securing victory with 41 balls to spare. The emphatic win boosted Rajasthan’s playoff hopes, while Jaiswal’s innings instantly became one of the greatest knocks in IPL history.

The 2023 season proved to be a breakthrough campaign for the talented opener. Following this innings, Jaiswal climbed to second place in the tournament’s run-scoring charts with 564 runs in 12 innings, further establishing himself as one of the brightest young stars in Indian cricket. His record-breaking knock at Eden Gardens remains a memorable moment in IPL history and a defining chapter in his rapidly rising career.

Why Mumbai Indians Lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 54th Match of IPL 2026: 3 Key Reasons

Mumbai Indians had RCB at 39/3 and needed 127 from that position to defend 166. They didn’t get it. Krunal Pandya’s 73 off 46 balls, 11 wides, a no-ball, and a bowling unit that lost discipline precisely when the match demanded the opposite combined to hand Royal Challengers Bengaluru a two-wicket win off the final ball at Raipur. Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 4/23 in the first innings and Jasprit Bumrah’s 20-run economy across four overs weren’t enough. Three specific failures explain why.

Which Key Players Will Decide CSK vs LSG IPL 2026 Match 53 Tonight

MA Chidambaram Stadium produces a specific kind of T20 contest: one where the middle overs between 7 and 15 decide everything before the death-over tactics become relevant. Sanju Samson’s 402 runs at a strike rate of 167.50 make him the most dangerous batter on either side. Noor Ahmad’s 11 wickets and best of 3 for 21 make him the most likely match-turning bowler. Anshul Kamboj’s 17 wickets give CSK their own attacking option. The phase where all three intersect determines which team controls this fixture from the moment the power play ends.
