Despite having a relatively short international career, Sunil Narine established himself as one of the most feared spin bowlers in world cricket. His ability to adapt to different conditions, deceive batters with mystery spin, and deliver under pressure made him a match-winner for the West Indies. Across six Tests, 65 ODIs, and 51 T20Is, Narine produced several memorable performances that highlighted his immense talent.

Here are top 3 performances of Sunil Narine in international cricket:

8/233 vs New Zealand, North Sound, 2012

One of Narine’s greatest performances came during the first Test against New Zealand at North Sound in 2012. The West Indies secured a dominant nine-wicket victory, and Narine played a major role with the ball in both innings. New Zealand batted first and posted 351 runs, with Martin Guptill scoring an impressive 97. Narine bowled tirelessly, delivering 43 overs and finishing with excellent figures of 5/132. He received support from Ravi Rampaul and Kemar Roach, who claimed two wickets each.

The West Indies responded strongly with 522 runs. Chris Gayle smashed 150, while Kieran Powell added 134. Contributions from Narsingh Deonarine and Daren Sammy pushed the hosts into a commanding position. In New Zealand’s second innings, Narine once again troubled the batters with his variations and control. He picked up 3/91, while Roach’s five-wicket haul wrapped up the innings for 272. Chasing a small target, the West Indies cruised home comfortably, with Gayle finishing unbeaten on 64. Narine’s match figures of 8/233 showcased his ability to perform in the longest format of the game.

6/27 vs South Africa, Providence, 2016

Narine delivered one of the best ODI spells by a West Indian spinner during the opening match of the 2016 Tri-Nation Series against South Africa at Providence.South Africa batted first and looked set for a strong total after Rilee Rossouw scored 61 runs. However, Narine completely changed the course of the  match with a sensational spell of spin bowling. He tore through the middle and lower order, finishing with remarkable figures of 6/27. His variations and clever changes of pace left the South African batters struggling throughout the innings. Carlos Brathwaite also chipped in with two wickets as South Africa were restricted to 188.

The West Indies chase was not entirely smooth, but Kieron Pollard guided the team home with a composed unbeaten 67. The hosts won by four wickets, and Narine deservedly earned praise for producing a match-winning spell that remains one of his finest ODI performances.

4/12 vs New Zealand, Lauderhill, 2012

Narine’s brilliance in T20 cricket was on full display during the second T20I against New Zealand at Lauderhill in 2012. The West Indies posted 177/5, thanks largely to a quick-fire 53 from Gayle. In reply, New Zealand struggled badly against the Caribbean bowling attack.

Narine completely dominated the innings with his mystery spin and finished with outstanding figures of 4/12 in four overs. His disciplined bowling never allowed the Kiwi batters to settle, and wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Dwayne Bravo and Marlon Samuels also supported well with two wickets each as New Zealand were bowled out for 116. The West Indies won the match comfortably by 61 runs, and Narine once again proved why he was regarded as one of the most dangerous T20 bowlers in the world.

Why Is GT’s Unchanged Playing XI Their Biggest Weapon Against RCB in IPL 2026 Qualifier 1?

Gujarat Titans’ edge in this Qualifier isn’t Rashid Khan or Kagiso Rabada. It’s certainty. GT arrived at Dharamsala with no injury concerns, no top-order questions, and a combination they’ve trusted since the midpoint of the league stage. RCB, the team that finished first, is entering the knockout, still working out who opens the batting. In playoff cricket, the team with fewer decisions to make carries a structural advantage that no individual matchup fully cancels out.

Why Does GT’s Three-Spinner Attack Give Them the Edge in RCB vs GT IPL 2026 Qualifier 1?

GT’s spinner advantage in this Qualifier isn’t about the venue overall; it’s about a specific phase. Dharamsala is pace-friendly in the powerplay and the death. But the middle overs, as the pitch slows and grips, belong to spin. Gujarat Titans have Rashid Khan anchoring the most dangerous middle-overs bowling unit in this IPL. The question is whether that advantage is decisive enough to offset Rajat Patidar’s remarkable form against spin and push GT into the final.

Why Can Derbyshire’s Pace Attack Survive Grace Road Spin in LEI vs DER Vitality Blast 2026?

Derbyshire’s structural problem on 27 May isn’t Leicestershire’s batting lineup. It’s their bowling attack walking into the wrong ground. Grace Road rewards spin across every measurable metric, and Derbyshire have no frontline spinner available for the first half of the competition. Leicestershire has Rehan Ahmed. The contest on paper is a seam-heavy attack versus a surface that punishes exactly that. Whether Derbyshire’s pacers can offset that gap is the only real tactical question before this match.
