Antigua and Barbuda Falcons will take on St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in Match 12 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, on Thursday, August 20. With both teams looking to gain momentum in the early stages of the competition, the battle between the two bowling attacks could play a decisive role.
The Falcons have already shown that their bowling unit can win games for them. They defeated Jamaica Kingsmen in a last-ball thriller in their opening fixture, with Alzarri Joseph playing a starring role with the ball.
The Patriots, meanwhile, have several established international bowlers in their ranks, including Pakistan quick Naseem Shah, Sri Lankan leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga and left-arm seamer Obed McCoy. Their squad also includes Afghanistan spinner Waqar Salamkheil.
With plenty of wicket-taking options on both sides, here are the top three bowlers to watch out for in Match 12.
1. Alzarri Joseph – Antigua and Barbuda Falcons
Alzarri Joseph will be the first name on the list after making an outstanding start to CPL 2026. The Antigua-born fast bowler has already established himself as the leader of the Falcons’ attack and produced a match-winning performance against Jamaica Kingsmen.
Joseph claimed three wickets in the Falcons’ opening game and was named Player of the Match as his side secured a thrilling two-wicket victory.
His ability to generate genuine pace makes him a difficult bowler to attack during the Powerplay. Joseph can also return during the death overs, where his hard lengths and variations give him an additional wicket-taking threat.
The Patriots possess an imposing top order featuring Andre Fletcher, Johnson Charles and Kyle Mayers. Joseph’s opening spell against the experienced Caribbean batters could therefore have a major bearing on the contest.
Fletcher and Charles are both capable of taking advantage of field restrictions, but Joseph has the pace to challenge them with deliveries that hurry the batters. His battle against the Patriots’ openers could set the tone for the Falcons.
Joseph has also enjoyed an impressive beginning statistically. He was the Falcons’ leading wicket-taker after their first two matches, with six wickets to his name.
2. Naseem Shah – St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
Naseem Shah will be another major threat, particularly with the new ball. The Pakistan fast bowler returned to the Patriots for CPL 2026 and brings significant experience from international and franchise cricket.
Naseem already has a strong association with the Patriots, having taken 17 wickets in 11 CPL appearances across his previous two seasons with the franchise.
The right-arm quick’s ability to move the ball early while maintaining considerable pace makes him an ideal Powerplay bowler. Against a Falcons batting order featuring Evin Lewis and Rahkeem Cornwall, the Patriots will need early wickets to prevent the hosts from establishing control.
Lewis, in particular, will be an important challenge. The left-handed opener is capable of scoring at a rapid rate when he gets through the first few overs. Naseem’s ability to attack the stumps and challenge the outside edge could force Lewis to play more cautiously than he would prefer.
Naseem’s role will not be limited to the Powerplay either. If Jason Holder needs a wicket at a crucial stage of the innings, the Pakistan pacer can be brought back to provide an attacking option.
With the Falcons playing at home, silencing their dangerous top order will be one of the Patriots’ biggest priorities. Naseem could be the bowler entrusted with that responsibility.
3. Wanindu Hasaranga – St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
Wanindu Hasaranga completes the list and could be particularly influential in the middle overs.
The Sri Lankan leg-spinner is one of the most accomplished T20 bowlers in the world and gives the Patriots a genuine wicket-taking option against Antigua’s aggressive middle order. His variations in pace and trajectory make it difficult for batters to settle against him.
Hasaranga’s importance was underlined in the Patriots’ Match 10 defeat to Jamaica Kingsmen, where he was among the bowlers used by the side.
His biggest challenge in Match 12 could come against Rahkeem Cornwall and the Falcons’ other power hitters. Cornwall has the strength to attack spin, while Tajinder Singh has already demonstrated his ability to score quickly during the competition.
That makes Hasaranga’s spell a fascinating tactical battle. If he bowls too full, the Falcons’ batters could target him over the infield. If he varies his pace effectively and forces them to hit against the turn, he has the ability to create wickets.
Hasaranga also gives Jason Holder the flexibility to attack during the middle overs rather than simply containing runs. A couple of wickets during that phase could prevent the Falcons from building the platform they need for a big finish.
