Match 27 | Caribbean Premier League 2026 | Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados | 5 September 2026
Barbados Tridents beat spin with more spin last time and got bowled out by it instead. Trinbago Knight Riders’ four-pronged slow-bowling attack mopped up 15 of 20 overs in the reverse fixture, and Chris Green’s side never found an answer. Avoiding a repeat starts with intent at the crease rather than fresh personnel, because most of the same names will walk out again in Bridgetown. Sunil Narine’s counterattack with the bat only made the humbling more complete. Five matches remain to lock in the playoffs.
Trinbago Knight Riders won Match 19 by seven wickets with 31 balls unused, chasing 127 at Queen’s Park Oval on August 28. Barbados were bowled out for 127, with Carter’s 28 off 27 the top score and Green adding 27 off 17 with two sixes.
Four Trinbago spinners shared 15 of the 20 overs, Narine going for 14 off four with two wickets, Tariq taking one for 11, Hosein and Goolie a wicket apiece. Barbados had no route to score against the turn.
Narine and Colin Munro put on 96 for the opening wicket as Trinbago strolled home in 14.5 overs. Narine won the match award for his 55 and two wickets. Green later admitted his side lacked a plan to manipulate the strike.

Barbados Tridents vs Trinbago Knight Riders CPL 2026
Narine’s numbers explain why this tilts Trinbago’s way. He took three for seven against St Kitts and Nevis, then two for 14 in the reverse fixture, five wickets across those two games, and his career tally of 133 remains the competition’s all-time record.
His batting has caught up to his bowling. Promoted back to the top, he scored 25 off 14 against St Lucia Kings, then 55 off 33 in the reverse fixture, his first T20 fifty since May 2024. A bowler who wins games with either skill is a problem the opposition have no answer for.
Barbados have shuffled their XI since that hammering. The Match 19 side featured Carter, Brathwaite, de Kock, Green as captain, and Clarke, with Brandon King already dropped before Match 18. By Match 23, Kevlon Anderson had been added alongside Rutherford, Motie, Sams, Mujeeb and Simmonds.
That game produced one of the tournament’s stranger results. De Kock smashed 106 off 57, and Barbados still lost, posting 217 for 4 as St Kitts chased down 220 with six wickets in hand. King, Linde, Layne, Descarte, Motara and Pollard remain options waiting for a recall.
Both teams arrive bruised. Barbados sit seventh with four points from five games, edged on net run rate by Trinbago in sixth with the same tally from seven matches including a no result. Antigua and Barbuda lead on nine points, Guyana unbeaten through four.
Trinbago have lost their last two games since beating Barbados, falling to Guyana when Hetmyer smashed an unbeaten 111, then losing by eight runs to Antigua and Barbuda. Barbados have not found form since their Match 23 collapse. Green’s equation is simple: win four of five remaining games and qualification takes care of itself.
Fixing this is less about personnel than approach. Four of Barbados’ top five scored below a run a ball facing ten deliveries or more in Match 19, exactly the pattern letting Trinbago’s spinners settle and dry up the boundaries. Rotating strike against four bowling styles is the only realistic counter to an attack that strangled this order for 15 overs already.
Home advantage offers something Barbados lacked last time. The rematch of Barbados Tridents vs Trinbago Knight Riders CPL 2026 goes ahead at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown on September 5, in front of a crowd behind Green’s side. Whether that outweighs a spin attack that dismantled them so completely is the only question that matters once the toss is done.
