Match 20 | CPL 2026 | Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain | 29 August 2026
Six batters decided the last meeting between these sides, and four of them are still building form heading into the next one. Colin Munro’s 50 off 36 balls set up Trinbago’s total in Port of Spain, only for Jamaica to chase it down through Rovman Powell and a maiden century from Saim Ayub earlier in the competition. Nicholas Pooran and Alex Hales remain the bigger long-term threats on paper for Trinbago, even after quieter recent knocks in their last few outings.
Nicholas Pooran arrives with 325 runs from nine matches this season, averaging 40.63 at a strike rate of 132.11, numbers built on innings like his 44 off 32 balls against Jamaica back in August. His most recent knock was quieter, just 12 against the Barbados Tridents, and he also missed a match earlier in the season while away at The Hundred with MI London, a stint that briefly cost Trinbago their most destructive middle-order finisher.
Alex Hales has scored 288 runs from ten matches at an average of 36.00 this season, and his 29 off 21 balls against Jamaica in the first meeting between these sides remains his best score against them. He was dropped for the Tridents game in favour of Matthew Tromp, then recalled for the rematch in Port of Spain, though Munro and Sunil Narine ended up opening the innings instead of him on the day.
Colin Munro has been described as Trinbago’s leading run-scorer this season, and his most recent innings backed that up in style. He struck 50 off 36 balls against Jamaica in Port of Spain, including three fours and three sixes, opening alongside Narine in a stand worth a hundred runs.
That form has been building for weeks. Munro made 37 against the Tridents in a 95-run opening stand with Narine, and even in the earlier defeat to Jamaica at Sabina Park he contributed 16 off 26 balls in a lower-key top-order effort that still kept the innings ticking along.
Lining up all six form players side by side shows exactly why this fixture keeps producing such high totals on both sides. Pooran’s strike rate of 162.24 across five innings edges out everyone else in the group, while Ayub’s 160.76 from just three knocks shows how destructive Jamaica’s middle order can be when the conditions suit them.
| Batter | Team | Innings | Average | Strike Rate |
| Nicholas Pooran | TKR | 5 | 39.75 | 162.24 |
| Alex Hales | TKR | 4 | 11.25 | 100.00 |
| Colin Munro | TKR | 6 | 36.00 | 120.67 |
| Rovman Powell | JAK | 8 | 35.50 | 133.96 |
| Andre Russell | JAK | 6 | 28.60 | 160.67 |
| Saim Ayub | JAK | 3 | 63.50 | 160.76 |
Rovman Powell has been the tournament’s leading run-scorer since the last meeting between these sides, now on 208 runs from seven matches after starting the season with 187 from five or six innings at an average above 46. His unbeaten 29 off 22 balls against Trinbago at Sabina Park remains the defining knock of that head-to-head so far this season.
Andre Russell has scored 143 runs from six innings this season at an average of 28.60, striking at well over 150, with his season-best 68 off 38 balls including nine sixes coming against the Tridents. His 27 off 15 balls in the first meeting with Trinbago formed a match-winning stand alongside Powell.
Saim Ayub gave Jamaica their standout individual innings of the competition so far, a maiden T20 century worth 102 off 58 balls against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots that included six fours and eight sixes. He followed it with an unbeaten 24 when rain ended the most recent meeting with Trinbago early.
The head-to-head between these franchises has produced two tight results in Jamaica’s favour, a five-wicket win at Sabina Park and a tight seven-run margin under DLS rules in Port of Spain, where first innings totals of 127 and 180 have kept the Queen’s Park Oval average close to 154 this season. Whatever happens next time these sides meet, the TKR vs JAK CPL 2026 batters to watch list will start with the same six names again.
