Dindigul Dragons will square off against VIDA Kovai Kings in Match 25 of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, August 21. The afternoon fixture, scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM IST, comes at a crucial stage of the competition, with both teams looking to strengthen their playoff chances.
The two sides have experienced contrasting moments during the tournament. Dindigul have shown flashes of their batting brilliance, including a mammoth 239-run total against Salem Spartans earlier in the campaign. However, they suffered a 28-run defeat to Trichy Grand Cholas in their most recent outing.
Kovai Kings, meanwhile, will enter the contest with confidence after registering a massive 116-run victory in their previous match. Their batting unit produced an imposing total before their bowlers completed a dominant performance.
With several established names and exciting young players on either side, Match 25 could be decided by a handful of individual contests. Here are the top three player battles to watch out for.
1. Baba Indrajith vs M Siddharth
One of the most intriguing contests could be between Dindigul Dragons captain Baba Indrajith and Kovai Kings’ left-arm spinner M Siddharth.
Indrajith has been one of the most important batters in Dindigul’s campaign. The experienced wicketkeeper-batter has the ability to play according to the demands of the situation, but he can also switch gears rapidly when the opportunity arises. His spectacular 73 off just 25 balls against Salem demonstrated how destructive he can be once he gets his eye in.
M Siddharth, meanwhile, could be one of Kovai’s key weapons in the middle overs. The left-arm spinner has the ability to bowl economically while also challenging batters to manufacture shots against a changing angle.
This battle will be particularly interesting because Indrajith is comfortable against spin but will need to assess the conditions at Chepauk carefully. Siddharth’s objective will be to keep the ball away from Indrajith’s preferred hitting areas and force him into taking risks.
If Indrajith wins the matchup, Dindigul could gain control of the middle overs. If Siddharth gets the better of the Dragons skipper, Kovai could put the brakes on what is otherwise a dangerous batting unit.
2. Shahrukh Khan vs Sandeep Warrier
The second battle could see VIDA Kovai Kings captain Shahrukh Khan come up against experienced pacer Sandeep Warrier.
Shahrukh is one of the most destructive middle-order batters in the TNPL and has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to change matches with his power-hitting. The right-hander is particularly dangerous during the final five overs, when he can target pace and spin and clear the boundary with minimal risk.
Warrier offers Dindigul experience and control. The right-arm seamer has played plenty of domestic cricket and can be used at different stages of a T20 innings. His ability to bowl hard lengths and mix his pace makes him a valuable option when facing aggressive finishers.
The timing of this matchup could be crucial. If Shahrukh arrives at the crease with Kovai needing 50 or 60 runs from the final five overs, Warrier could be entrusted with an important spell.
Warrier will need to avoid feeding Shahrukh deliveries in his hitting arc. The Kovai skipper, on the other hand, will look to force the bowler into missing his lengths.
Given Shahrukh’s ability to turn a competitive total into a huge one in just a few overs, Dindigul will be keen to ensure that Warrier wins this particular battle.
3. Shivam Singh vs Jhatavedh Subramanyan
The third battle to watch could take place during the Powerplay, with Dindigul opener Shivam Singh facing Kovai pacer Jhatavedh Subramanyan.
Shivam has emerged as one of Dindigul’s key batting options and is capable of playing aggressively from the outset. His ability to find boundaries during the fielding restrictions allows the Dragons to establish momentum before the spinners enter the attack.
That makes Subramanyan’s role particularly important. The Kovai seamer will be tasked with preventing Shivam from settling and ensuring that Dindigul do not race away during the opening six overs.
Subramanyan can attack the stumps and make use of variations when required. Against a batter such as Shivam, however, accuracy will be the biggest requirement. Any loose delivery could disappear to the boundary at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
For Shivam, the objective will be to put pressure on the bowler without taking unnecessary risks. A strong Powerplay from him could provide the platform for Indrajith and the middle order to launch an assault later in the innings.
The first few overs could therefore provide a fascinating contest between Dindigul’s attacking intent and Kovai’s attempt to establish early control.
