Glasgow Cosmics will square off against Dublin Guardians in Match 5 of the inaugural European T20 Premier League (ETPL) 2026 at Sportpark Westvliet in The Hague on Saturday, August 29. The fixture brings together two teams with contrasting strengths, with Glasgow boasting a formidable collection of T20 power-hitters and Dublin relying on experience, spin and a strong Irish core.

The Cosmics will be playing their second game of the competition after facing Edinburgh Castle Rockers in Match 3, while Dublin Guardians will also be looking to build momentum after their opening fixture against Belfast Wolves. With both sides packed with international-quality players, several individual contests could determine the outcome.

Here are the top three player battles to watch out for in Match 5 of ETPL 2026:

1. Finn Allen vs Josh Little

The battle between explosive New Zealand opener Finn Allen and Ireland’s premier left-arm pacer Josh Little could set the tone for the contest.

Allen is arguably one of the most destructive batters in the Glasgow squad. The right-hander is renowned for his extraordinary ability to attack from the first ball and holds the record for the fastest T20I century by a batter from a major cricketing nation, having reached the milestone in just 33 deliveries. He has also been highlighted as one of ETPL 2026’s players to watch, particularly because of his remarkable Powerplay striking ability.

Dublin, however, have a bowler perfectly suited to challenging an aggressive opener.

Josh Little is one of Ireland’s most experienced international fast bowlers and brings genuine left-arm pace to the Guardians’ attack. His ability to swing the new ball and attack the stumps could make him a major threat to Allen during the Powerplay.

The battle will revolve around whether Allen can impose himself before Little settles into his rhythm. The Glasgow opener will look to exploit any width and put pressure on the fielding captain immediately. Little, meanwhile, will aim to deny him room and make use of any early movement available.

If Allen survives the opening spell, Glasgow could be in a commanding position very quickly. But if Little removes him early, Dublin will have made a huge dent in the Cosmics’ biggest strength.

2. Liam Livingstone vs Ravichandran Ashwin

The contest between Liam Livingstone and Ravichandran Ashwin could be the tactical battle of the match.

Livingstone is one of the most dangerous middle-order batters in T20 cricket and gives Glasgow another avenue for rapid scoring after the Powerplay. He has accumulated more than 8,000 runs in T20 cricket at a strike rate of around 146 and was also in excellent form during The Hundred 2026.

His ability to attack both pace and spin makes him particularly difficult to contain.

Standing in his way will be Dublin captain Ravichandran Ashwin.

The veteran Indian off-spinner has built a career around outthinking batters, and his experience will be invaluable against a Glasgow lineup filled with aggressive hitters. Ashwin is expected to play a central role in controlling the middle overs, where he can vary his pace, trajectory and angle to prevent Livingstone from freely accessing the boundary.

Livingstone, though, is unlikely to allow Ashwin to settle.

The English all-rounder has the power to hit spin into areas that most batters cannot reach, while his ability to use the sweep and slog-sweep could be crucial against Ashwin.

This battle could determine the scoring rate between overs 7 and 15. If Livingstone gets the better of Ashwin, Glasgow could post a massive total. If Ashwin manages to contain or dismiss him, Dublin will significantly improve their chances of restricting the Cosmics.

3. George Munsey vs Daryl Mitchell

The third battle features Glasgow captain George Munsey and Dublin’s New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell.

Munsey has developed into one of Scotland’s most dangerous T20 batters and is expected to lead Glasgow’s aggressive approach at the top of the order. He is known for playing positively from the outset and has the ability to attack both pace and spin.

The Cosmics’ squad has been built around a destructive top order featuring Munsey, Allen, Kamindu Mendis, Richie Berrington and Livingstone.

Dublin’s response could come through Daryl Mitchell.

The New Zealand all-rounder provides the Guardians with experience in both departments and is one of their key middle-order batting options. Mitchell has also been highlighted as a player to watch in ETPL 2026 following an impressive run of form in T20 cricket.

While this is not necessarily a direct batter-versus-bowler contest, the battle represents the contrasting philosophies of the two teams.

Munsey will want to establish Glasgow’s dominance early, while Mitchell’s role will be to ensure Dublin remain competitive through the middle and latter stages of the innings. If Munsey gets the Cosmics off to a flying start, Mitchell could have to contribute with both bat and ball to keep his side in the game.

His ability to provide crucial breakthroughs or accelerate the scoring later could therefore be decisive.
