Hand-picked stories you can't miss
Shreyas Iyer and Abhishek Sharma have carried India’s batting this series, but neither has found the form to trouble England’s bowlers late in an innings. Jacob Bethell has been the difference-maker, striking at a pace India haven’t matched. Sanju Samson, the side’s most destructive T20I batter, remains out of the XI. With the series already lost 2-0, Bristol’s short boundaries and history of high chases give India one more chance to make a real statement before the tour ends.
England lead this series 2-0 with two games left, the gap widening with every match. The opener at Durham was washed out with India at 189 for 7, a promising total never tested. Manchester turned into a four-wicket defeat after India posted 190 for 7 and still watched England chase it down in 19 overs. Trent Bridge was worse: India collapsed to 76 all out in 11.4 overs, their heaviest defeat by runs in T20I history.
| Match | Venue | India Score | England Score | Result |
| 1st T20I | Durham | 189/7 | No result | Rain |
| 2nd T20I | Manchester | 190/7 | 191/6 (19 ov) | England by 4 wkts |
| 3rd T20I | Trent Bridge | 76 all out | 201/7 | England by 125 runs |
A defeat in Bristol hands England an unassailable 3-0 lead. The series finale follows on 11 July in Southampton, regardless of what happens tonight.
Abhishek Sharma remains India’s most consistent scorer, 112 runs across three innings at 37.33. His fifty in Durham was the only true platform India built all series. Shreyas Iyer has been steady without cutting loose, 106 runs at 35.33 including a 68 that steadied the opener. Sooryavanshi, on debut, managed just 27 runs across two innings.
| Player | Team | Series Runs | Series Avg |
| Abhishek Sharma | India | 112 | 37.33 |
| Shreyas Iyer | India | 106 | 35.33 |
| Jacob Bethell | England | 89 | 44.50 |
| Phil Salt | England | 70 | 35.00 |
On recent T20I form, Samson outranks everyone here, 305 runs at a strike rate near 185 across his last seven games. He simply hasn’t been picked.
India’s selectors face a genuine puzzle in Bristol. Samson looks likely to return after being benched for two games, with Tilak Varma or Shivam Dube the probable makeway. Neither replacement has offered much resistance. Dube managed 42 not out in Durham before fading, and Varma’s contributions have gone largely unrecorded since.
Washington Sundar could also come in for Varun Chakravarthy, tilting the balance toward batting depth over an extra spinner. It is a lineup being rebuilt out of necessity, not form.
Bethell has been the standout batter this series, 89 runs at 44.50 built around an unbeaten 76 in Manchester that set up England’s first win. He arrives on the back of a strong recent T20I year too, over 300 runs at a strike rate above 150.
Brook has been tidier than spectacular, 55 runs across two knocks while captaining a settled order. Salt has been the most explosive when it clicks, a first-ball duck in Manchester followed by 70 off 44 balls at Trent Bridge with seven fours and three sixes.
| Player | Team | Series Runs | Series Avg |
| Jacob Bethell | England | 89 | 44.50 |
| Phil Salt | England | 70 | 35.00 |
| Harry Brook | England | 55 | 27.50 |
| Jos Buttler | England | 36 | 18.00 |
Curran’s unbeaten 41 at Trent Bridge added late muscle England barely needed. Buttler and Salt were both dismissed by Arshdeep Singh in Manchester, a spell that set the tone for England’s chase.
County Ground has been kind to India, unbeaten in four completed T20Is here, the last of them a chase of 199 in 2018. Short straight boundaries make it one of the more batting-friendly venues on the circuit. This year’s Vitality Blast games here have averaged 156 in the first innings, lower than the wider historical T20I average but still enough to reward positive batting from ball one.
Teams have generally preferred to chase here, which suits an India side still searching for confidence with the bat. Whichever way the toss goes, England vs India T20I 2026 batters to watch will be decided by whoever handles the new ball best in the first six overs.
