Jamaica Kingsmen will look to make it back-to-back victories in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 when they take on Saint Lucia Kings in Match 13 at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet on Friday, August 21. The Kingsmen enter the contest with confidence after defeating St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by 51 runs in their previous game.
Jamaica posted 181/6 against the Patriots before dismissing their opponents for 130, producing an impressive all-round performance. The result also came at an important time for the franchise, which is still finding the right balance as several overseas players become available during the second phase of the tournament.
The Kingsmen’s overseas contingent was planned in phases, with Saim Ayub, Maaz Sadaqat and Usman Khan joining the squad from August 19. Their arrival could therefore lead to some changes from the XI that defeated St Kitts and Nevis.
Here is the predicted playing XI of Jamaica Kingsmen for Match 13 against Saint Lucia Kings.
Kirk McKenzie is likely to continue opening the innings. The left-handed batter has been part of Jamaica’s preferred combination and provides an aggressive option at the top.
McKenzie will be particularly important during the Powerplay, when he can use the field restrictions to attack Saint Lucia’s seamers. With the Kingsmen possessing plenty of firepower in the middle order, his primary responsibility will be to give them a solid start.
Saim Ayub could make his first appearance of the season after joining the Jamaica Kingsmen’s squad on August 19. The Pakistan international is one of the most exciting T20 batters in the side and could immediately slot into the opening combination.
Ayub’s attacking approach makes him a natural fit at the top. His ability to score boundaries through unconventional strokes could put pressure on Saint Lucia’s new-ball bowlers.
His off-spin also provides an additional bowling option, although his primary role will be to score quickly.
Reeza Hendricks should continue at No. 3 despite the arrival of Ayub. The South African batter offers experience and stability in the top order.
Hendricks has already shown his ability to anchor the innings while maintaining a healthy scoring rate. His presence could allow Ayub and McKenzie to play more aggressively around him.
He will also be tasked with handling Saint Lucia’s quality spin options, particularly Maheesh Theekshana.
Keacy Carty is expected to retain his place in the middle order. The West Indies batter has become an important component of Jamaica’s batting unit because of his ability to construct an innings and accelerate when required.
Carty could prove particularly useful if the Kingsmen lose an early wicket. His calm approach can help Jamaica rebuild before the likes of Rovman Powell and Andre Russell take over.
Captain Rovman Powell remains one of Jamaica’s most important players.
The powerful right-hander is capable of changing the game within a handful of overs and has already been among the Kingsmen’s key performers in CPL 2026. He is particularly dangerous against spin and can clear the boundary with remarkable consistency.
Powell’s leadership will also be important against a Saint Lucia side that has recently strengthened its batting with the addition of John Campbell. The Jamaican captain will need to use his bowlers intelligently against a lineup containing several dangerous stroke-makers.
Andre Russell is almost certain to retain his place. The veteran all-rounder remains one of the biggest match-winners in T20 cricket.
Russell can contribute with both bat and ball, making him invaluable to Jamaica’s balance. His ability to hit sixes in the final overs could prove decisive if the Kingsmen bat first.
With the ball, Russell can be used during the middle or death overs. His variations and ability to generate bounce give Powell another option when the main bowlers have completed their spells.
Hassan Khan should continue as the team’s spin-bowling all-rounder. The Pakistan international is one of the overseas players available throughout the tournament and provides useful balance.
His left-arm orthodox spin could be particularly valuable against Saint Lucia’s right-handed batters. He can also contribute valuable runs in the lower middle order, making him an important part of Jamaica’s combination.
Odean Smith is expected to retain his place as a pace-bowling all-rounder.
The powerful West Indian can provide crucial runs down the order while offering Powell another seam-bowling option. His ability to bowl with pace makes him useful during the death overs.
Smith’s biggest responsibility could be containing Saint Lucia’s lower middle order, which contains several players capable of clearing the ropes.
Keemo Paul should continue as one of Jamaica’s specialist seam-bowling options.
The Guyanese all-rounder has plenty of CPL experience and is capable of bowling at different stages of an innings. His slower deliveries and variations could be especially useful at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium.
He also provides additional batting depth, allowing Jamaica’s top six to play with greater freedom.
Vitel Lawes is likely to retain his position after featuring in Jamaica’s recent XI. The young seamer offers pace and energy to the attack.
His ability to attack the stumps could be important against Saint Lucia’s top order, particularly if John Campbell and Roston Chase open the innings.
Lawes will be expected to complement the experience of Russell and Paul.
Hunain Shah should complete the Jamaica Kingsmen XI. The Pakistan fast bowler was among the overseas players confirmed for the full CPL campaign.
He has the ability to generate pace and movement and could be entrusted with the new ball. His battle against Saint Lucia’s aggressive left-handed batters could be one of the defining aspects of the Powerplay.
Kirk McKenzie, Saim Ayub, Reeza Hendricks, Keacy Carty, Rovman Powell (C), Andre Russell, Hassan Khan, Odean Smith, Keemo Paul, Vitel Lawes, Hunain Shah
