Hand-picked stories you can't miss
Three batters carry the weight of this match between them. Two bat for KKR, one for MI, but all three share the same characteristic: when they fire in the powerplay, their team wins. Finn Allen brings destruction from ball one. Angkrish Raghuvanshi brings consistency that no other KKR batter has matched this season. Ryan Rickelton brings a proven record against this exact bowling attack. Whoever among them reads the Eden Gardens conditions fastest on May 20 sets the scoreline.
| Batter | Team | IPL 2026 Runs | Strike Rate | Last 5 Form |
| Finn Allen | KKR | 321 (9 matches) | 221.37 | 93 off 35, 100* off 49, 2 x 10-six innings |
| Angkrish Raghuvanshi | KKR | 422 (12 matches) | 146.52 | 82* off 44, 71 off 46, 59 off 47, 5 fifties |
| Ryan Rickelton | MI | 430 (10 matches) | 190.26 | 81 off 43 vs KKR, 123* off 55 vs SRH, 83 off 32 vs LSG |
The KKR vs MI IPL 2026 key batters all share one defining quality: they don’t take time to settle. Allen, Raghuvanshi, and Rickelton have all shown the ability to control power plays and accelerate at will. That makes the first six overs at Eden Gardens the most consequential phase of Match 65.
Finn Allen has made Eden Gardens his home ground in every sense. Both his century (100* off 49 balls against Delhi Capitals) and his 93 off 35 against Gujarat Titans came here. He produced two innings with 10-plus sixes this season; no other batter has done that twice in a single IPL edition. His 21-ball fifty against GT is the clearest evidence of how quickly he can end a powerplay contest before the opposition has adjusted.
After a difficult start to the season and a spell out of the XI, his return has been relentless. If KKR bat first, Eden Gardens belongs to Allen in the first six overs.
At 21, Angkrish Raghuvanshi is KKR’s leading run-scorer with 422 runs from 12 matches at an average of 42.20. His five half-centuries this season equal Robin Uthappa’s KKR single-season record; only Gautam Gambhir, who hit six in 2012, sits ahead of him in the franchise’s history books. Scores of 82* off 44, 71 off 46, and 59 off 47 in recent matches show a batter who isn’t going through a purple patch; he’s been this consistent all season.
His value against MI’s pace-heavy attack is specific. He absorbs early pressure and then accelerates, giving KKR batting depth that doesn’t rely entirely on Allen’s fireworks.
Ryan Rickelton knows what Eden Gardens looks like under pressure. His 81 off 43 balls in Match 2 powered MI’s record chase of 221 at Wankhede, against this KKR attack, in a high-stakes game. His 123* off 55 balls against SRH remains the fastest century in MI’s IPL history and their highest individual score of the season. He’s averaging 47.77 across 10 matches at a strike rate of 190.26, with three century opening stands alongside Rohit.
At Eden Gardens, where pace and bounce suit his game, he’s the most dangerous visiting batter in this fixture.
Eden Gardens averages a first-innings score of 170-182 in IPL 2026. Dew under lights reduces spin grip and neutralises slower-ball variations, giving the chasing team a structural edge. MI have won 7 of 11 matches at this venue across all IPL seasons; that record is no coincidence. For Allen, dew removes the spin threat that slowed him early in the season. For Raghuvanshi, true bounce in a chase means he can drive and pull freely. For Rickelton, dew shortens the contest to a format he’s mastered.
Whoever wins the toss and bats second holds the advantage. Which of these three you back says everything about how you read Match 65.
