Bangladesh sealed a historic first-ever series victory against Pakistan on 22 July 2025 with a nervy eight-run victory. The Bangla Tigers were taking on their Asian rivals for the seventh time in a T20I series, and finally broke their duck against the Pakistan team. Bangladesh completed their victory by winning the first two matches of the series, before Pakistan pulled a consolation win in the third T20I on 25 July 2025.
Coming into the second game with a seven-wicket win in the first match, the Bangla Tigers were put into bat on the slow wicket at the Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. They found themselves reeling at 28 for 4 in the powerplay, with fascinating bowling from Faheem Ashraf, Ahmed Daniyal and Salman Mirza. Parvez Hasan Emon, player of the match in the first game with a half-century, was dismissed cheaply for 13 runs off 14 balls, as Pakistan tightened the screws on Bangladesh.
Jaker Ali was joined by Mahedi Hasan in the middle, as the pair worked on repairing the Bangladesh innings. They stitched a stand of 53 runs before Mahedi was dismissed for 33 off 25 balls. Jaker carried on, despite wickets falling at the other end. He was the final wicket to fall, being dismissed for 55 off 48 balls, which took the Tigers to a score of 133 before they were bundled out. Mirza was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2 for 17 from four overs, with Daniyal and Abbas Afridi also picking up two wickets apiece.
Bangladesh got off to a rollicking start with the ball after Saim Ayub was run out in the first over. Shoriful Islam removed Mohammad Haris and the dangerous Fakhar Zaman, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib removed Hazan Nawaz and Mohammad Nawaz to leave Pakistan at 15 for 5 in the final over of the powerplay. Pakistan were unable to get a move on the scoring, finding themselves at 47 for 7 in the 12th over. Ashraf, who had shone with the ball, took it upon himself to rescue Pakistan, taking the attack to the Bangladesh bowlers. He stitched partnerships with Daniyal and Afridi to bring the target down to 28 runs from 12 balls. Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain was taken for two fours and a six, with the maximum bringing up Ashraf’s maiden fifty in T20 internationals.
With 13 runs needed off seven balls, Hossain had Ashraf bowled off a quicker one, leaving Bangladesh with just one more wicket separating them from history. Mustafizur Rahman just needed two balls to complete the defence, having Daniyal caught at mid-wicket to seal a nervy eight-run victory. Jaker Ali’s rescue act in the middle order saw him earn the Player of the Match award as the Tigers sealed a historic series victory with their win. This remains one of the most historic achievements in Bangladesh cricket, a team with a growing stock over the past few years.
