The Barbados Tridents will take on the Jamaica Kingsmen in the Eliminator of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown on September 16. The Tridents head into the knockout clash after finishing third in the league stage, while Jamaica secured the fourth spot. With the loser set to be eliminated from the tournament, both teams will have little room for error.
Barbados enter the contest with considerable momentum. They ended the league stage with four consecutive victories, including an impressive six-wicket win over the Guyana Amazon Warriors in their final league fixture. After bowling Guyana out for just 99, the Tridents chased down the target in 14.5 overs, with Brandon King scoring an unbeaten 44. A.M. Ghazanfar and Johann Layne picked up three wickets apiece.
The Tridents have also defeated the Jamaica Kingsmen in both of their meetings this season. They won the first encounter by five runs and then edged out Jamaica by two wickets in their most recent meeting on September 12.
Here is Barbados Tridents’ Predicted XI for Eliminator of CPL 2026:
Brandon King is likely to continue opening the innings after producing an important unbeaten 44 against Guyana. The right-hander has been a consistent presence at the top and can put pressure on Jamaica’s new-ball bowlers with his strokeplay.
His ability to provide momentum during the powerplay will be particularly important in a knockout game.
Zachary Carter could retain his place alongside King at the top. The youngster opened the innings against Guyana and has been given opportunities to contribute at the top of the order.
With Quinton de Kock batting at No. 3, Carter’s role will be to attack the new ball while allowing the South African wicketkeeper-batter to settle into his innings.
Quinton de Kock remains one of Barbados’ most important batting options. The experienced left-hander has been among the leading run-scorers in CPL 2026 and has also taken over wicketkeeping duties.
He has already scored 321 runs in the tournament, according to recent tournament coverage, making his presence at the top of the order crucial for Barbados.
Shadrack Descarte could continue in the middle order after contributing a valuable 32 in the victory over Guyana.
The all-rounder provides flexibility to the batting unit and can also contribute with the ball when Chris Green needs another option. His ability to play according to the match situation makes him useful in a knockout fixture.
Kevlon Anderson is likely to retain his position in the middle order. He featured in Barbados’ XI for the final league game and provides another option capable of rotating the strike before accelerating during the latter stages.
Against Jamaica’s varied bowling attack, Anderson could be tasked with building partnerships around the more aggressive batters.
Captain Chris Green is expected to continue leading the side. The Australian all-rounder brings tactical flexibility, particularly with his off-spin, while also providing depth with the bat.
Green’s ability to use his bowlers intelligently could be particularly important at Kensington Oval, where Barbados have plenty of familiarity with the conditions.
Sherfane Rutherford is one of the biggest power-hitting options in the Barbados lineup. The left-hander can change the complexion of an innings during the death overs and is also capable of contributing with the ball when required.
His role could become even more significant if Barbados lose wickets early.
George Linde has become an important all-round component of the Tridents’ combination. The South African left-arm spinner can control the middle overs while also providing useful runs down the order.
He played a significant role against Guyana, taking two wickets for just 13 runs in four overs.
His ability to bowl economically while adding batting depth makes him a strong candidate to retain his place.
Gudakesh Motie should continue as one of Barbados’ primary spin options. The left-arm orthodox spinner has the ability to operate with control and challenge Jamaica’s batters during the middle overs.
His familiarity with Kensington Oval could also make him an important tactical weapon.
A.M. Ghazanfar is expected to retain his place after producing a match-winning spell against Guyana. The Afghanistan spinner returned outstanding figures of 3/17 and was named Player of the Match.
His variations could be particularly useful against Jamaica’s aggressive middle order, which includes players such as Andre Russell and Rovman Powell.
Johann Layne completes the predicted XI. The pacer was another standout performer against Guyana, taking three wickets for 14 runs from just two overs.
His ability to generate breakthroughs and provide a pace option alongside Barbados’ strong spin contingent makes him a likely selection for the Eliminator.
Brandon King, Zachary Carter, Quinton de Kock (WK), Shadrack Descarte, Kevlon Anderson, Chris Green (C), Sherfane Rutherford, George Linde, Gudakesh Motie, A.M. Ghazanfar, Johann Layne.
