Edinburgh Castle Rockers will take on Belfast Wolves in Match 11 of the European T20 Premier League (ETPL) 2026 at Voorburg Cricket Club in the Netherlands on September 2. The fixture is scheduled to begin at 3:15 PM local time (6:45 PM IST). It will be an important clash between two sides that have made impressive starts to the inaugural competition.
Edinburgh have enjoyed a strong beginning to their campaign. Mitchell Santner’s side are unbeaten after three matches, with two wins and one no-result, and currently sit at the top of the points table on five points. Belfast Wolves also have five points from three games, making this contest particularly important in the race for the top positions.
The Castle Rockers possess considerable experience across all three departments. Their squad includes New Zealand stars Mitchell Santner and Trent Boult, England’s Tom Curran and Laurie Evans, USA wicketkeeper-batter Andries Gous and a strong contingent of Scottish and Irish players.
However, one significant selection issue is already known: wicketkeeper Charlie Tear has been ruled out of Season 1. The Rockers therefore have to rely on Andries Gous as their primary wicketkeeping option.
Here is the predicted playing XI of Edinburgh Castle Rockers for Match 11 against Belfast Wolves:
Ross Adair is expected to open the innings.
The Ireland international is an aggressive batter who can make full use of the Powerplay. His ability to attack seamers square of the wicket makes him a dangerous proposition for Belfast’s new-ball bowlers.
Adair’s role will be particularly important because Edinburgh have several powerful middle-order options. A brisk start from him can allow the rest of the batting lineup to play with greater freedom.
Andries Gous should partner Adair at the top and take the gloves.
The USA international has been one of the more experienced batters in the Rockers’ squad and provides considerable power at the top of the order. Gous can attack pace and is also capable of accelerating rapidly once set.
With Charlie Tear unavailable, his wicketkeeping responsibilities become even more important. (ETPL)
Brandon McMullen is likely to bat at No. 3.
The Scottish all-rounder has become an important part of Edinburgh’s core and can influence the game with both bat and ball. His ability to play attacking strokes makes him an ideal option immediately after the Powerplay.
McMullen can also provide useful seam bowling, giving Santner another tactical option.
JJ Smuts should occupy the No. 4 position.
The South African-born Italy international provides valuable experience and is capable of contributing with both bat and ball. His left-handed batting adds variety to the Rockers’ middle order.
Smuts’ ability to rotate the strike before accelerating could be particularly useful against Belfast’s varied bowling attack.
Tom Bruce is expected to feature in the middle order.
The New Zealand batter brings extensive domestic and T20 experience and can play the role of an aggressor once the field restrictions are lifted.
Bruce’s ability to attack spin could be important against Belfast captain Glenn Maxwell and their other slow-bowling options.
Laurie Evans is likely to bat at No. 6.
The experienced English batter provides Edinburgh with another proven T20 campaigner. Evans has spent years playing franchise cricket and understands how to construct innings according to match situations.
If the Rockers lose early wickets, Evans can rebuild the innings. If the top order establishes a platform, he can switch gears and attack.
Captain Mitchell Santner should come in at No. 7.
Santner is the heartbeat of Edinburgh’s team. The New Zealand all-rounder offers left-handed batting, accurate left-arm spin and considerable leadership experience.
His bowling could be particularly important against Belfast’s aggressive middle order, which features players such as David Miller and Glenn Maxwell. Santner will have to make smart use of the conditions and matchups.
Tom Curran is expected to slot in at No. 8.
The England all-rounder provides crucial lower-order hitting and brings experience to the bowling attack. His variations, including slower deliveries, can be especially effective during the death overs.
Curran also gives Santner another player capable of contributing in multiple phases of the match.
Mark Watt should feature as the specialist spinner.
The Scotland international is renowned for his accurate left-arm orthodox bowling and ability to operate during the Powerplay as well as the middle overs.
His main task could be to restrict Belfast’s aggressive batters and force them to take risks against the turning ball.
Trent Boult should spearhead the Edinburgh pace attack.
The New Zealand left-armer remains one of the most accomplished new-ball bowlers in T20 cricket. His ability to swing the ball early and attack the stumps makes him a major threat to Belfast’s top order.
The prospect of Boult facing Paul Stirling and Devon Conway could be one of the key contests of the match.
Safyaan Sharif is likely to complete the XI.
The Scotland seamer brings experience and can complement Boult with disciplined bowling. His ability to deliver at different stages of the innings gives Santner another reliable option.
Sharif’s role could become particularly important at the death alongside Curran.
Ross Adair, Andries Gous (WK), Brandon McMullen, JJ Smuts, Tom Bruce, Laurie Evans, Mitchell Santner (C), Tom Curran, Mark Watt, Trent Boult, Safyaan Sharif
