Guyana Amazon Warriors will face Jamaica Kingsmen in Qualifier 2 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, on September 18. The Warriors enter the contest after suffering a crushing nine-wicket defeat against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in Qualifier 1, while Jamaica secured their place in Qualifier 2 with a dominant nine-wicket victory over Barbados Tridents in the Eliminator. The winner of this contest will face the Falcons in the CPL 2026 final.
Guyana’s defeat to Antigua was particularly damaging as they were bowled out for just 76. Sufyan Moqim and Shadab Khan claimed four wickets each, with Shadab also completing a hat-trick. The Warriors’ batting lineup struggled badly against the Falcons’ spin attack, with only a few batters managing to reach double figures.
However, Guyana have enjoyed a strong campaign overall and finished the league stage at the top of the points table. They also have a perfect 2-0 record against Jamaica in CPL 2026, including an eight-wicket victory in their most recent meeting.
With their season now on the line, Guyana could make a couple of tactical changes while retaining most of their core players.
Glenn Phillips is expected to open the innings and provide Guyana with an aggressive start. The New Zealand batter was one of the few Warriors to spend meaningful time at the crease against Antigua, although he was eventually dismissed by Moqim.
Phillips had also played an important role in Guyana’s earlier victory over Jamaica, scoring 33 in the eight-wicket win. His ability to attack during the Powerplay could be crucial against Jamaica’s pace attack.
Mavendra Dindyal should continue at the top of the order. The young Guyanese batter has been given a consistent opportunity throughout the tournament and provides an attacking option alongside Phillips.
Dindyal’s ability to score quickly could be particularly valuable against a Jamaica side that conceded 145/1 while defending 144 in the Eliminator.
Shai Hope is likely to retain the wicketkeeper’s gloves and occupy an important position in the top order. He has been one of Guyana’s key batters during the tournament and will be determined to bounce back after being dismissed for a duck against Antigua.
Hope scored an unbeaten 39 in Guyana’s previous victory over Jamaica and has the technique to anchor the innings if early wickets fall.
Mohammad Haris could retain his place after featuring against Antigua. The Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter was dismissed cheaply in Qualifier 1, feathering a catch behind off Moqim.
However, Haris’ attacking approach gives Guyana another option in the top and middle order. His ability to take on the bowling during the Powerplay could help the Warriors avoid another slow start.
Shimron Hetmyer remains one of Guyana’s biggest batting threats. The left-hander is capable of changing the momentum of an innings quickly and has extensive experience in pressure situations.
Hetmyer was dismissed during Shadab Khan’s hat-trick in Qualifier 1, making a strong response particularly important. He scored an unbeaten 30 off 17 balls against Jamaica earlier in the season and could once again be crucial in the middle overs.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz should continue as Guyana’s premier spin-bowling all-rounder. The Bangladesh international contributes valuable runs in the lower middle order while also giving Imran Tahir another option with the ball.
His previous outing against Antigua ended in disappointment as he became one of the victims of Shadab’s hat-trick. However, his experience makes him an important player for a must-win knockout match.
Quentin Sampson is expected to retain his place as a dynamic middle-order option. The young all-rounder can provide acceleration with the bat while also giving Guyana additional flexibility.
Sampson was bowled by Shadab during the dramatic collapse against Antigua, but the Warriors are likely to back him for another opportunity.
Romario Shepherd should continue as Guyana’s seam-bowling all-rounder. His power-hitting ability makes him an important lower-order batter, while his pace bowling can provide crucial overs.
Shepherd has also been part of Guyana’s core combination throughout the tournament, and his experience in franchise T20 cricket makes him a useful player in a high-pressure contest.
Khary Pierre could retain his place as a specialist spin option. The left-arm orthodox bowler has been effective during the middle overs and can be used to disrupt Jamaica’s right-handed batters.
Pierre also picked up two wickets in Guyana’s previous eight-wicket victory over Jamaica, removing Usman Khan and Maaz Sadaqat.
Shamar Joseph is expected to spearhead the pace attack. The West Indies quick brings genuine pace and wicket-taking ability and can be particularly dangerous when bowling with the new ball.
His role will be crucial against a Jamaica batting lineup that is coming off a remarkable performance in the Eliminator, where Maaz Sadaqat smashed an unbeaten 112.
Imran Tahir should lead the attack and captain the side. The veteran leg-spinner finished the league stage with 14 wickets and remains Guyana’s biggest threat in the middle overs.
Tahir also has a good recent record against Jamaica, having taken a wicket in their previous meeting. His variations and experience will be particularly important against Jamaica’s aggressive middle order.
