Match 15 | ETPL 2026 | Sportpark Duivesteijn, Voorburg, Netherlands | 3:15 PM, 5 September 2026
Ashwin is running Dublin’s cricket department and its dressing room at once, and four straight losses suggest the dual job is still a work in progress. At 39, he bats at eight, bowls off-spin in short bursts, and makes every selection call himself, with co-owner Rahul Dravid staying out of it entirely. The results are rough, but one voice controlling both strategy and man-management is the more interesting story in this rebuild. That structure faces its next real test away from home this week.
Ashwin holds the rare combination of captain and mentor at once, a title he does not share with any other franchise leader in this competition. Dublin have lost all four matches under him, falling by 52 runs to Belfast, by 33 to Glasgow, by four wickets to Edinburgh and by seven wickets to Rotterdam in their most recent outing, leaving them bottom of the table without a win.
His own numbers have been modest rather than decisive. He picked up a wicket against Belfast, then returned figures of one for 21 against Rotterdam, his most economical spell of the tournament and the moment he trapped Faf du Plessis lbw for his third wicket in four games. No standout batting score has been recorded from him yet, reflecting a lower-order role built more around control than impact.
Dublin arrive at this fixture still searching for their first win, and the batting order carries the weight of that search. James Vince top-scored with 95 not out in the loss to Rotterdam and added 40 against Edinburgh, while Harry Tector has shown form with 75 against Glasgow. George Dockrell has been useful with the ball, taking three for 27 against Edinburgh, and Josh Little and Chris Wood round out a pace attack that has picked up wickets without turning results around.
The pattern across four defeats is consistent: Dublin’s top order gets starts but the middle and lower order have not consistently backed them up, and twice now a chase in the high 170s has slipped away in the final overs.
Rahul Dravid holds a co-owner stake in this franchise but has been explicit about staying out of cricket decisions, a position Ashwin confirmed publicly back in July. Ashwin described Dravid’s focus as franchise development off the field, leaving all playing and selection calls entirely in his own hands. Ashwin has spoken about wanting his career to now involve more than just playing, pointing to his time as India’s head coach through 2024 and a brief spell in charge of Rajasthan Royals before this season.
That history gives him coaching credibility even amid a difficult start, and it explains why the ownership group has resisted the urge to intervene four games into a rebuild.
Vince and Muhammad Waseem are set to open, with Tector, Daryl Mitchell, Sanjay Krishnamurthi and Vijay Shankar filling the middle order ahead of Dockrell, Ashwin himself, and a pace trio of Matthew Hollard, Josh Little and Chris Wood closing out the XI. Benjamin Calitz remains a rotation option who has not featured in recent lineups.
| Player | Role | Batting Position |
| James Vince | Top-order batter | No. 1 |
| Muhammad Waseem | Top-order batter | No. 2 |
| Harry Tector | Middle-order batter | No. 3 |
| Daryl Mitchell | Pace all-rounder | No. 4 |
| George Dockrell | Spin all-rounder | No. 7 |
| Ravichandran Ashwin (C) | Off-spin all-rounder | No. 8 |
Marsh’s Side Finds Its Form
Mitchell Marsh captains Amsterdam, a detail worth confirming given one outdated report had wrongly credited Glenn Maxwell, who actually leads Belfast Wolves. Amsterdam sit on three points from four matches, having lost their opener to Rotterdam and a rain-hit game to Belfast before beating Glasgow Cosmic in their most recent outing, with Yuvraj Samra striking 73 and Tim David finishing unbeaten on 47.
Steve Smith, Ajinkya Rahane and Bas de Leede add further top-order experience to a lineup that has found form at exactly the wrong time for a struggling Dublin side. This clash of Dublin Guardians vs Amsterdam Flames ETPL 2026 captaincy storylines plays out at Sportpark Duivesteijn in Voorburg, with a 3:15 PM local start giving Ashwin one more chance to turn calm leadership into an actual result.

Is R Ashwin still an active player this tournament?
Yes, he is both playing and leading the side this season. He has taken three wickets in four appearances, including an economical LBW dismissal of Faf du Plessis at Rotterdam.
What role does Rahul Dravid play at the franchise?
He is a co-owner who stays out of cricket decisions entirely. Ashwin confirmed back in July that Dravid focuses only on franchise development and business matters off the field.
Where is this fixture being played?
The match is at Sportpark Duivesteijn in Voorburg, Netherlands. It is the 15th match of the tournament, hosted at the same Dutch venue that staged several other fixtures this season.
Who captains the opposition in this match?
Mitchell Marsh leads the Netherlands-based franchise, not Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell actually captains a different side entirely, Belfast Wolves, despite one outdated report wrongly crediting him with this role.
