The Saint Lucia Kings will look to carry the momentum from their convincing victory over the Jamaica Kingsmen when they face the Trinbago Knight Riders in Match 17 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026. The fixture is scheduled to take place at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba on Wednesday, August 26.
The Kings have had a mixed campaign so far, winning three of their opening six matches. Their latest outing brought a much-needed six-wicket victory over the Jamaica Kingsmen, with Saint Lucia chasing down 170 with 10 balls to spare. Matthew Forde was named Player of the Match after making a significant contribution with both bat and ball.
With their confidence restored, Saint Lucia are unlikely to make too many changes to their winning combination. The team management could stick with the same XI that featured against Jamaica, although there are several quality options on the bench.
Tim Seifert is expected to continue opening the innings and keeping wickets. The New Zealand international has provided Saint Lucia with an aggressive option at the top and his ability to attack during the powerplay could be crucial against TKR’s experienced bowling attack.
John Campbell should partner Seifert at the other end. The left-hander played an important role in the victory over Jamaica, contributing 41 off 21 balls in a 66-run partnership with Kamil Pooran. His ability to score quickly could once again help Saint Lucia make the most of the fielding restrictions.
Kamil Pooran is likely to retain his place in the top order. The left-handed batter has been one of the more consistent members of Saint Lucia’s batting unit and played a crucial innings in the previous match.
Pooran’s 57-run partnership with Obus Pienaar helped Saint Lucia complete the chase against Jamaica comfortably. He will need to take greater responsibility against TKR, especially if the visitors’ spinners make early inroads.
Johann Jeremiah should continue at No. 4, while captain Roston Chase is expected to occupy the next spot.
Chase remains the key all-rounder in this side and provides balance with both bat and ball. He has also been among Saint Lucia’s leading wicket-takers in CPL 2026, with seven wickets heading into the Jamaica game.
His ability to bowl useful overs could be particularly valuable against a TKR batting order featuring Nicholas Pooran, Alex Hales and Kieron Pollard.
Obus Pienaar could continue at No. 6 after producing a sensational cameo against Jamaica. He smashed an unbeaten 34 off just 14 deliveries, including four fours and two sixes, to take Saint Lucia over the line.
Matthew Forde is another player expected to retain his place. The all-rounder was instrumental in the victory and earned the Player of the Match award. His ability to contribute in both departments makes him an important component of the XI.
Amari Goodridge, Joshua Bishop, Shadley van Schalkwyk and Maheesh Theekshana are expected to complete the playing XI.
Goodridge provides a pace option, while Bishop and van Schalkwyk give captain Chase additional all-round bowling choices. The duo can be particularly useful if the Brian Lara Cricket Academy pitch offers assistance to slower bowlers.
The biggest threat in the spin department, however, will be Theekshana. The Sri Lankan mystery spinner can cause problems for TKR’s right- and left-handed batters and is likely to be used strategically during the powerplay and middle overs.
