Antigua and Barbuda Falcons will square off against defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders in Match 14 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, on Friday, August 22. The match will be played at 7 PM local time, with the action beginning at 4:30 AM IST on August 23.
Both teams have plenty of firepower in their batting departments, making it difficult for bowlers to settle. The Falcons boast explosive players such as Evin Lewis and Rahkeem Cornwall, while TKR can call upon the likes of Nicholas Pooran, Alex Hales and Colin Munro. The latest available XIs also show that these players remain central to their respective batting combinations.
With several big-hitters capable of changing the game within a few overs, here are the top three batters to watch out for in Match 14 of CPL 2026.
Nicholas Pooran is arguably the biggest batting threat in the TKR lineup and will be one of the most closely watched players in Antigua.
The left-hander has been retained as one of the central pillars of the defending champions alongside Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Akeal Hosein and Terrance Hinds. That experienced core was retained specifically to help TKR defend the title they won in 2025.
Pooran’s greatest strength is his ability to accelerate almost instantly. He does not necessarily need a long period to settle before taking on the bowlers, making him particularly dangerous once the field restrictions are lifted.
He also has the flexibility to bat according to the situation. If TKR lose early wickets, Pooran can anchor the innings before accelerating later. If the openers provide a strong platform, he can immediately switch into attack mode.
The latest available TKR XI has Pooran listed at No. 3 and as captain-wicketkeeper, placing considerable responsibility on his shoulders.
His battle against the Falcons’ pace attack, particularly Alzarri Joseph and Jayden Seales, could be crucial. If Pooran manages to neutralise their threat, TKR could finish with a formidable total.
Why watch him: Pooran’s ability to turn a 15-ball cameo into a match-defining innings makes him TKR’s most dangerous batting weapon.
While Evin Lewis is an obvious candidate, Rahkeem Cornwall deserves plenty of attention after making a strong start to CPL 2026.
Cornwall’s inclusion at the top of the order gives the Falcons an unusual but highly effective powerplay option. The burly all-rounder possesses immense power and is capable of clearing the boundary against both pace and spin.
The latest available Falcons XI has Cornwall opening alongside Lewis, followed by Tim Robinson and Tajinder Singh.
That combination gives the Falcons the opportunity to attack from the very beginning. Lewis can use his experience and strokeplay to put pressure on the bowlers, while Cornwall’s brute force can create a completely different challenge.
Cornwall has also been among the players showing encouraging form heading into this contest. Current projections have him on a streak of scoring at least 20 runs in three consecutive matches, while also recording at least one six in each of those games.
Against TKR, however, Cornwall will have to contend with one of the most experienced spin attacks in the tournament. Sunil Narine and Akeal Hosein can both operate during the powerplay and will look to deny him the opportunity to free his arms.
If Cornwall survives those opening overs, his ability to produce sixes could give the Falcons an early advantage.
Why watch him: Cornwall’s explosive power and aggressive opening role could set the tone for the Falcons’ innings.
The third batter to watch is Alex Hales, whose experience makes him a particularly dangerous opponent for the Falcons.
The Englishman has been a key component of TKR’s batting unit and is currently listed to open alongside Colin Munro.
Hales has already demonstrated that he knows how to construct an innings against the Falcons. In their meetings during CPL 2025, he produced unbeaten scores of 55 off 46 balls in the league encounter and 54 off 40 balls in the Eliminator, showing that he can make a substantial contribution even without going after every delivery from the outset.
That experience could be invaluable at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
Hales is particularly dangerous when he gets through the initial phase of an innings. His ability to attack pace, manufacture boundaries and find gaps makes him difficult to contain once he gets his eye in.
The Falcons will therefore be keen to attack him early through Joseph and Seales. If Hales survives the opening burst, TKR could have the perfect platform for Pooran and Pollard to accelerate later.
Why watch him: His proven record against the Falcons and ability to build match-winning T20 innings make Hales a major threat.
