2nd T20I | Bangladesh vs Australia T20I Series 2026 | Chattogram, Bangladesh | 19 June 2026
Adam Zampa and Joel Davies are the spinners most likely to settle this one again, after combining for six wickets in a performance nobody saw coming in Chattogram. Bangladesh‘s own spin trio managed only two wickets between them in the chase, and selectors now face the question of whether Nasum Ahmed finally gets a game. Litton Das’s fitness adds another layer of uncertainty before Friday’s toss. Whichever spinners adjust fastest to a slow, low Chattogram pitch will likely decide who levels the series.
Bangladesh and Australia head into the second T20I with the series level at 0-1 to the tourists, after an opening match that nobody expected would be settled by spin rather than pace. Both attacks are likely to lean on tweakers again at
, a venue already showing signs of turn after just one game, and a slow outfield that has favoured bowlers willing to take pace off the ball.
Australia’s spinners finished with nine wickets between them in the first match, a tally no touring side’s spin unit had previously managed in a T20I innings on Bangladeshi soil. Bangladesh’s own spin attack, by contrast, shared just two wickets in the chase.
The numbers from Chattogram tell their own story.
| Bowler | Team | Overs | Wkts | Economy | Notes |
| Adam Zampa | AUS | 4.0 | 3 | 4.50 | Bowled Hridoy with a googly; reached 150 T20I wickets |
| Joel Davies | AUS | 3.0 | 3 | 5.67 | T20I debut; dismissed Emon, Saqlain, and Shoriful |
| Matt Renshaw | AUS | 3.0 | 2 | 8.67 | Dismissed Saif Hassan and Shamim Hossain |
| Nikhil Chaudhary | AUS | 2.0 | 1 | 7.00 | Off-spin debut; also took two catches |
| Mahedi Hasan | BAN | 4.0 | 1 | 7.25 | Caught Tim David at long-on |
| Rishad Hossain | BAN | 4.0 | 1 | 6.50 | Dismissed Chaudhary off a lap sweep |
| Abdul Gaffar Saqlain | BAN | 4.0 | 2 | 8.00 | Debut; removed Connolly and Renshaw |
| Saif Hassan | BAN | 1.0 | 0 | 7.00 | One tidy over in the chase |

Zampa’s three wickets made him the first Australian to reach 150 in the format, while Davies took three on debut in only his second international match.
Zampa’s wicket-taking ball was the googly, the delivery that bowled Towhid Hridoy and drew the false shot that ended Soumya Sarkar’s innings at deep cover. He described the pitch afterward as low and short of pace, adding that it still felt hard to clear the rope.
Davies relied on the arm ball and a deliberate use of the bigger boundary, sending sweepers toward the longer side of the ground rather than the short one. The plan worked twice, including the review that overturned Mustafizur Rahman’s not-out decision for a front-foot LBW.
Mahedi Hasan and Rishad Hossain managed a wicket apiece in the chase, Mahedi removing Tim David at long-on the ball after David had cleared the rope by 98 metres, Rishad catching Nikhil Chaudhary off a lap sweep. Debutant Abdul Gaffar Saqlain was the pick of the home spinners, finishing with 2 for 32 and the wickets of Cooper Connolly and Matt Renshaw.
Nasum Ahmed remains an option that selectors haven’t used this series yet. His best T20I figures, 4 for 19, came in a 2021 series Bangladesh won 4-1 behind Nasum and Shakib Al Hasan’s spin, though that spell was bowled at Mirpur rather than Chattogram. Whether he replaces a seamer or one of the spinners who played game one is the bigger selection question heading into Friday.
Rishad Hossain’s broader numbers explain some of the home side’s caution around picking two frontline spinners over Saqlain. Across his career, he’s taken 13 wickets in 8 T20Is at an economy of 8.76, figures that show promise without yet matching what Australia’s tweakers produced in game one.
Litton Das missed the opener with a grade one left calf strain, the team physio described as minor and progressing well, but no update on his availability for game two had been issued as of June 18. Towhid Hridoy, his vice-captain, led the side in his absence and would do so again if Litton isn’t passed fit.
Wicketkeeper Parvez Hossain Emon, who played through a fever before the first match, also has no confirmed status for Friday. If either is missing again, Bangladesh’s batting order and Bangladesh vs Australia 2nd T20I bowlers selections both shift, with Soumya Sarkar already showing he can open in Litton’s place.
