One of the most influential women’s players of the 20th century, England batter Janette ‘Jan’ Brittin was born today, July 4, 1959, in the town of Kingston-upon-Thames in Surrey, United Kingdom. She was widely regarded as one of the best fielders of her generation.

Off-spinner Ghulam Ahmed is probably most fondly remembered among cricketing faithful as a true gentleman, but despite that, he was a brilliant spinner. A tall and slim off-spinner with a simple and repeatable action, he was a force to reckon with on wickets which provided help, but was also tight with his lengths on unfavourable wickets. He has played four unofficial and 22 official Test matches for India, and even captained the Indian team on three occasions. With the legendary Vinoo Mankad and Subash Gupte, he formed probably India’s first-ever dominant trio of spinners, a trend which has followed across Indian teams in every generation.

England hosts India in the second T20I of the five-match series on Saturday, July 4, at Old Trafford in Manchester. The series is still at 0-0, with the first game at Chester-le-Street yielding no result due to a washout.

India will be desperate to bounce back in the second T20I against England after rain washed out the series opener. While batting first, Indian batters showed glimpses of brilliance in the first match. And after a disappointing series loss against Ireland, the team management is under pressure, hence could be tempted to make a couple of changes to the playing XI, particularly at the top of the order, where India’s struggles have been evident throughout the white-ball leg of the tour.

England will be aiming to carry forward the positives from the opening T20I when they take on India in the second match of the five-game series. The hosts were clinical with the ball before rain prevented them from beginning their chase of 190. Having restricted a strong Indian batting lineup to 189/7, England are unlikely to tinker much with a combination that performed well in the series opener.

Henry Olonga was the first black cricketer and the youngest-ever to represent the Zimbabwean national team. A fast bowler by trade, Olonga has had a storied career, filled with differing highs and lows. Regarded as one of Zimbabwe’s fastest bowlers, he was a dangerous customer to face at his best, but often erred in the form of wides and no-balls.
