Dindigul Dragons will look to return to winning ways when they face SKM Salem Spartans in Match 18 of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2026 at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul on Friday, August 14. The contest comes at an important stage of the league phase, with both teams looking to strengthen their position after inconsistent starts to the campaign.

Dindigul have managed one victory from their opening four matches and are coming off a 21-run defeat against Siechem Madurai Panthers in their previous outing. Their batting has largely revolved around R Vimal Khumar, who had emerged as their leading run-scorer with 117 runs after three matches, while P Bhuvaneswaran had been their leading wicket-taker with five scalps at that stage. 

The Dragons have plenty of experience in their squad, with Baba Indrajith leading the side, while Varun Chakaravarthy, Sandeep Warrier and Shivam Singh provide quality in the bowling and all-round departments. 

Here is the predicted playing XI Dindigul Dragons could field against Salem Spartans.

1. Vimal Khumar

Vimal Khumar is expected to continue at the top of the order. The left-handed batter has been one of Dindigul’s most consistent performers in the competition and had already accumulated 117 runs after the opening three games. 

His ability to score quickly while also building an innings makes him an important part of the Dragons’ plans. Against a Salem attack that has struggled for consistency, Vimal could look to make the most of the powerplay.

2. Shivam Singh

Shivam Singh could partner Vimal at the top. The right-hander is capable of playing an aggressive brand of cricket and can provide Dindigul with momentum during the initial overs.

His ability to attack both pace and spin will be particularly valuable at a venue where the average first-innings score in TNPL matches is around 159. 

3. Baba Indrajith (c & wk)

Captain Baba Indrajith is expected to occupy the No. 3 position while also taking responsibility behind the stumps. His experience makes him one of the most important players in the Dragons’ lineup.

Indrajith’s ability to control the tempo of an innings will be crucial if Dindigul lose an early wicket. He can also shift gears when required, making him a valuable player in the middle overs.

4. Hunny Saini

Hunny Saini could come into the XI as a middle-order batting option. His role will be to provide stability around the more aggressive batters while ensuring that the scoring rate does not drop significantly.

With Dindigul needing greater consistency from their batting unit, Saini could have an important role to play if the top order fails to convert its starts.

5. Dinesh H

Dinesh H is likely to feature as an all-rounder, giving the Dragons additional balance. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball provides captain Indrajith with another tactical option.

In a format where match situations can change rapidly, having players capable of performing multiple roles is a significant advantage.

6. Mohit Mittan

Mohit Mittan could be another middle-order option for the Dragons. His presence gives the batting unit further depth and allows the top order to play with greater freedom.

Mittan’s ability to accelerate towards the end of an innings could become particularly important if Dindigul retain wickets during the first half of their innings.

7. P Bhuvaneswaran

P Bhuvaneswaran is expected to provide all-round depth while also contributing with the ball. He had been Dindigul’s leading wicket-taker after their first three matches, with five wickets to his name.

His ability to strike at important moments makes him a key member of the bowling unit. Bhuvaneswaran could also be used during the middle overs to disrupt Salem’s batting rhythm.

8. Varun Chakaravarthy

Varun Chakaravarthy is likely to be one of Dindigul’s biggest weapons with the ball. The experienced mystery spinner can be particularly difficult to attack in the middle overs because of his variations and ability to change pace.

Against Salem’s left- and right-handed combination, Varun’s ability to adjust his lines could make him a major wicket-taking threat.

9. Sandeep Warrier

Sandeep Warrier should lead the pace attack. The experienced seamer can make use of any movement available with the new ball and has enough control to bowl effectively during the middle phase.

His experience will be particularly useful against Salem’s top order, which includes Hari Nishaanth and Nidhish Rajagopal.

10. M Viju Arul

M Viju Arul could be the second specialist seamer. His inclusion would provide Dindigul with another pace option alongside Warrier.

Arul’s main objective will be to maintain disciplined lengths and prevent Salem’s batters from scoring freely during the powerplay and death overs.

11. Sasidharan Ravichandran

Sasidharan Ravichandran could complete the XI as another bowling option. His inclusion would give Dindigul additional variety and allow Indrajith to rotate his bowlers depending on the match situation.

The Dragons’ bowling unit will need to perform collectively if they are to restrict Salem, who are still searching for their first victory of the season.
