Antigua and Barbuda Falcons will take on Barbados Tridents in Match 16 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, on August 25. The contest promises to be an exciting battle between two teams boasting several explosive T20 batters.
Both sides have already shown plenty of firepower in the tournament. Barbados Tridents have made an unbeaten start to their campaign, winning their opening two games, while the Falcons have experienced a mixed run despite producing some thrilling performances. The latest meeting between the two sides comes just two days after Antigua suffered a seven-wicket defeat against Guyana Amazon Warriors, making a strong batting response particularly important.
Here are 3 batters who could make an impact in Match 16 of CPL 2026
Team: Antigua and Barbuda Falcons
Evin Lewis is one of the most dangerous power-hitters in the CPL and remains the first name on this list.
The left-handed opener has scored 113 runs in five innings in CPL 2026 so far, including 12 sixes. His strike rate of 128.41 does not completely reflect his ability to change a game quickly, but his boundary-hitting remains a major weapon for the Falcons.
Lewis has already produced several useful contributions this season and was particularly important during Antigua’s dramatic three-wicket victory over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. He played a crucial role in the chase alongside Shadab Khan and Moeen Ali as the Falcons secured victory in the final over.
However, his most recent outing was disappointing. Lewis did not get an opportunity to bat against Guyana Amazon Warriors after the Falcons were bowled out for just 116.
That could make the Barbados game an important opportunity for the experienced opener to bounce back.
Lewis’ biggest strength is his ability to put pressure on bowlers during the powerplay. The Falcons will want him to attack the Barbados new-ball bowlers before Gudakesh Motie and Mujeeb Ur Rahman can come into the contest.
The battle against Barbados’ bowling attack will be fascinating because the Tridents possess enough quality to test Lewis, but one mistake in length could allow him to take the game away within a few overs.
If Lewis gets through the initial phase, Antigua could be in a strong position to post a substantial total.
Team: Barbados Tridents
Brandon King has been one of the standout batters for Barbados Tridents since the beginning of CPL 2026.
The right-handed opener has scored 112 runs in two innings, averaging 56.00 and striking at 141.77. He has already hit 10 fours and five sixes in the tournament.
His campaign began with a sensational 73 off 51 balls against Jamaica Kingsmen. King played the anchor role in a huge Barbados total of 206/3, while also accelerating effectively towards the end of his innings.
He followed that with a useful 39 off 28 balls against Saint Lucia Kings. Although he could not convert his start into another fifty, his innings helped Barbados establish a strong platform before Sherfane Rutherford took over.
King’s consistency at the top gives Barbados an important advantage. While Quinton de Kock can attack from the outset, King is capable of playing a slightly more measured role before accelerating.
That combination has worked effectively for the Tridents.
Against Antigua, King will need to negotiate the new-ball threat posed by Alzarri Joseph and Jayden Seales. Both pacers possess the pace and movement to trouble him early, but if King survives that period, he could once again become the foundation around which Barbados build a big score.
With 112 runs already in the tournament, King is currently one of the leading run-scorers and will be keen to extend that tally.
Team: Barbados Tridents
Sherfane Rutherford completes the list and is arguably the batter in the best form heading into Match 16.
The left-hander has scored 111 runs in two innings, with an extraordinary average of 111.00 and a strike rate of 188.14. He has also smashed seven fours and eight sixes.
Rutherford began his campaign with an unbeaten 50 off 28 balls against Jamaica Kingsmen, helping Barbados post 206/3. His knock was especially impressive because he accelerated dramatically during the final phase of the innings.
He then produced an even more destructive performance against Saint Lucia Kings, smashing 61 off just 31 deliveries. His innings included three fours and five sixes and earned him the Player of the Match award as Barbados won by nine runs.
Rutherford’s ability to attack spin and pace makes him a nightmare for bowling sides once he settles. He is particularly dangerous during the final five overs, when his power allows him to clear the boundary with remarkable consistency.
For Antigua, containing Rutherford will therefore be one of the biggest priorities.
The Falcons have several quality bowlers, but they will need to avoid offering Rutherford deliveries in his hitting arc. Alzarri Joseph’s pace could be useful, while Shadab Khan and Moeen Ali could be employed to test him with spin.
If Rutherford gets another 25-30 deliveries, Barbados could potentially finish with a huge total.
