Antigua and Barbuda Falcons will lock horns with Barbados Tridents in Match 16 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, on Tuesday, August 25. With both teams possessing plenty of firepower in their respective batting departments, the contest could ultimately be decided by which bowling attack handles the conditions and pressure better.
The Falcons enter the contest after suffering a seven-wicket defeat against Guyana Amazon Warriors in Match 15. They were bowled out for just 116 before Guyana chased down the target inside 10 overs. However, Antigua’s bowling unit has produced several impressive performances this season, with Shamar Springer and Alzarri Joseph among their leading wicket-takers.
Barbados, meanwhile, have made a strong start to their campaign and possess an attack featuring Daniel Sams, Gudakesh Motie and Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Sams has already claimed five wickets in just two matches, while Motie has four wickets to his name.
Here are the top three bowlers to watch out for in Match 16 of CPL 2026.
Team: Antigua and Barbuda Falcons
Shamar Springer has been one of the most consistent wicket-takers in the Falcons’ bowling attack this season and will be a key player against the powerful Barbados batting line-up.
The seam-bowling all-rounder has claimed eight wickets in six matches, putting him third overall in the CPL 2026 wicket-taking charts. He has bowled 18 overs and has an impressive best of 3/13, while maintaining an economy rate of 9.06.
Springer’s importance to Antigua goes beyond his wicket tally. His ability to contribute with the ball across different phases gives captain Moeen Ali considerable flexibility. He can be introduced during the powerplay or held back for the middle and death overs depending on the match situation.
His recent form will be particularly important after the Falcons’ disappointing outing against Guyana. Antigua’s bowlers were unable to defend a modest 116, with the Warriors reaching the target in only 9.5 overs. Springer will therefore be expected to lead the fightback.
The biggest challenge for him will be Barbados’ formidable top and middle order. Brandon King has already produced a 73 in the tournament, while Quinton de Kock and Sherfane Rutherford possess the ability to score rapidly. Rutherford, in particular, will test Springer’s variations once he settles at the crease.
If Springer can strike early and remove one of Barbados’ established batters, the Falcons could prevent the visitors from getting off to another flying start.
Team: Antigua and Barbuda Falcons
Alzarri Joseph is another bowler who could have a major influence on the contest.
The Antigua pacer has picked up seven wickets in six matches and currently sits among the leading wicket-takers in CPL 2026. He has bowled 17 overs and has returned best figures of 3/32, with an economy rate of 9.06.
Joseph’s biggest weapon is his pace. On a surface where batters may find it difficult to hit through the line consistently, his ability to generate bounce and attack the stumps could make him a major threat.
He will also be familiar with the conditions at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, which should allow him to make intelligent use of the pitch.
The Barbados top order will provide a stern examination. Brandon King has been among their most reliable performers, while de Kock’s aggressive approach means Joseph could have an immediate opportunity to make an impact with the new ball.
The battle between Joseph and de Kock could be especially intriguing. The South African wicketkeeper-batter likes to attack from the beginning, whereas Joseph will look to exploit any movement or bounce available.
Joseph also has the experience to handle the pressure of bowling at the death. If Barbados have wickets in hand, his yorkers and variations could be vital in preventing Rutherford and Daniel Sams from producing a late-innings assault.
For Antigua, Joseph’s ability to deliver in both the powerplay and death overs makes him one of the most important players in the XI.
Team: Barbados Tridents
Daniel Sams completes the list and arguably enters Match 16 with the strongest bowling numbers among the players from both teams.
The Australian all-rounder has taken five wickets in just two matches, including outstanding figures of 4/20 in Barbados’ opening game against Jamaica Kingsmen. He has bowled only seven overs so far and has conceded 48 runs, giving him an excellent economy rate of 6.86.
Sams’ four-wicket haul was a major reason why Barbados managed to defend 206 against Jamaica. His ability to strike at crucial moments gives captain Chris Green a dependable wicket-taking option.
The left-arm seamer can also be particularly effective against aggressive batters because he is capable of changing his pace and using variations rather than simply relying on speed.
His recent numbers make him a bowler the Falcons cannot afford to underestimate.
Antigua’s top order contains plenty of attacking intent, with Evin Lewis, Rahkeem Cornwall, Amir Jangoo and Kusal Perera all capable of scoring rapidly. Sams could therefore be used aggressively during the powerplay to try and break the Falcons’ opening partnership.
His battle with Lewis could be one of the key contests of the match. Lewis is at his most dangerous when he gets a few deliveries in his hitting zone, while Sams will look to deny him that freedom through changes of pace and disciplined lines.
Sams’ ability to contribute with the bat also makes him a valuable all-round package for Barbados, but his bowling could once again be the difference-maker.
